UPDATE EDUCATION SUMMER 2021

RENEWABLES CENTRE TO POWER FUTURE CAREERS

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

The new Renewables Centre is being introduced by Newbury College and University Centre Newbury to expand the delivery of skills for renewable energy systems and engineering. The UK Green Building Council reports that the built environment is responsible for around 40% of the UK’s CO2 emissions. From 2025, new homes will no longer be able to be fitted with gas boilers and will be required to use sustainable technologies such as heat pumps. Local employers in the housebui lding, heating, plumbing and specialist renewables sectors have highlighted a need to train more young people with the core principles of engineering, materials science, heat ing and plumbing systems who then progress to develop the skills required to work on renewable technology specialisms such as biomass, After more than a year of online open days and virtual tours, we are getting ready to welcome prospective students to Newbury College and University Centre Newbury to experience what we have to offer in-person. A carefully considered series of Student Experience Days has been developed within the current government

solar PV and air source heat pumps. Expanding the training provision in these areas wi l l enhance soc ia l mobility and help to drive economic regeneration in the local area, by creating opportunities for skilled workers to fill employment needs and to generate more opportunities for people to start self-employment. “ “We in Newbury measure our success, in part, by the success of the students of Newbury College, who provide our best local apprentices; whether that’s in green energy or technology or engineering.” - Laura Farris MP guidel ines, to provide applicants and those who are still undecided about their next step, to take part in subject-related activities, meet tutors and get familiar with our fantastic facilities. The events will take place between 28 June - 09 July 2021 and are available by pre-registering at newbury- college.ac.uk/events
