LOCAL consultants fromWest Berkshire have been awarded the highest accolade from lead- ing weight loss organisation Slimming World by being part of their named District of the Year 2020. Davina Gale who runs groups in Newbury said: “Naturally we’re all immensely proud of this achievement because I know that my colleagues and I have worked really hard since we returned to running our real groups in August. It’s nice to know this work has been recognised at the national level.” “When we won the award as a team I was delighted,” added Mariana Simpson. “My group in Thatcham is part of much wider group and I know that my members can go to any group to get weighed, but also get the support and care they need on their weight loss journey.” Casey Knox who has recently joined the team with her Saturday morning group said: “It’s a real privilege to be part of this team; my team are so helpful and that’s making a huge difference to my members – we’re in Theale and so come in from surrounding areas to get weighed. They know there’s support there if they need it.” With her groups in the centre of West Berkshire, Karen Cutler commented how there’s now support from Monday to Saturday: “It’s taken us a while to achieve this because Covid-19 and the lockdown has been challenging, but we’re now all fully open and ready to help even more people who may have put weight on during the spring and summer.” Two consultants who have outlying groups are Emily Watson-Stubbs with members coming from Bucklebury, Southcote and Thatcham, and Richard Woodall with members from Hungerford, Inkpen and into Wiltshire. Richard said: “It’s really humbling at times to know that your member has come the best part of 10-miles to get weighed on a cold, dark night, but they know that we care about them and really want them to lose weight – I’m so glad that the judges at Slimming World know how much we care.”
