Christmas Guide 2020

Newbury Weekly News

To make things easier for you this year, we have put all the entry coupons on one sheet on p2. Cut the page off and as you go through the guide you just fill in the answer for each competition. You need only fill in your name and address once at the top of the answer form. Please fill the form in clearly. If

we are unable to read the contact details provided, then we will offer the prize to the next name drawn. These competitions would not have been possible without the generosity of the firms that have provided the prizes. We are grateful to our sponsors for their support.

WELCOME to the Christmas Guide 2020, brought to you by the Newbury Weekly News . Many thousands of entries were received for competitions in last year’s edition and we expect an equally good response this time. You can send as many entries as you wish as long as they are on an original entry form.

Support local businesses on line this Christmas

until December, we’re encouraging residents to shop with them online from the safety of their homes. This is a quick and easy way of giving them your support during this difficult time and will help to make sure they can re-open when it’s safe to do so. Here in West Berkshire we think our small independent businesses are what give our high streets their character. Saturday, December 5, marks the 8th anniversary of Small Business Saturday, which is a grassroots campaign we support each year as it encourages us all to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses with our spending. It had a massive presence in Newbury last year as the town was on their ‘Big Blue Bus’ tour. This year, although scaled back, the day will still be an opportunity to discover local independent businesses and to

pick up any last minute Christmas shopping.

WE at West Berkshire Council have been proud to see the lengths our shops and restaurants went to in order to keep their customers safe and to keep our district open for business this summer and autumn. From screens, to floor markings, to plentiful hand sanitiser supplies, they have gone above and beyond to create a secure shopping environment. We also implemented a range of Covid-19 related safety measures across our high streets to enable safe, socially distanced shop- ping. This has included support for businesses to expand their outdoor space and changes to road layouts as well as signage and practical advice on the ground to advise premises how best to operate as the seasons change. Now that non-essential businesses will be closed again

We always encourage residents to shop small and to shop local where they can. This year- more than ever- we are calling on you all to get online and support our local traders throughout the new
