Danny steps down DANNY Langford stepped down as Newbury FC player/manager after 18 months at the Thames Valley Premier League club. Newbury won the Division 1 title convincingly and reached the semi-finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy last season. But Langford said: “After a long 18 months I have taken the decision to step down as Newbury FC manager. “It was always going to be tough given the circumstances, but I am extremely proud of what I have achieved for the club.” Newbury have endured tough battles with the council after being forced out of their Faraday Road home ground, resulting in their home games being played at Brimpton last season. A HERMITAGE man said he had“no hesitation” in jumping a barrier to go to the aid of a seven-year-old boy who fell from a rollercoaster. Jon Philo was queuing up with his son Maxwell to ride the Twister ride at Lightwater Valley, a theme park near Ripon, North Yorkshire. And Mr Philo explained how he saw the child fall 15ft from the ride. He said: “The ride continued to go round and all I heard was the mother hysterically screaming ‘my son ’ and then I knew what had happened. “I jumped over the barriers and the track and if I am honest I was terified. Nearly 450 participants gathered at Newbury College for the Corn Exchange’s first Colour Dash. Runners and walkers of all ages took part in either a 5k or a family-friendly 1k, being showered in colour as they passed colour stations on the course. At the end, the crowd decorated themselves further in a rainbow of colour. The Colour Dash was the finale to the Save Your Corn Exchange campaign and the venue is confident the event will help it to reach its target.
