NEWBURY NEWS

Newbury Weekly News

Sparrows are top of the flocks again THE house sparrow is the most common bird in British gardens – for the 17th year in a row. The BBC’s Birdwatch 2020 asked people to check which birds were visiting their gardens and sparrows proved to be most common once again. Starlings and blue tits were the next most spotted bird, while the rest of the top 10 was made up of wood pigeons, blackbirds, goldfinches, great tits, robins, long-tailed tits and magpies. The lockdown has made many people more aware of our feathered friends – and the people of Newbury have been quick to take pictures of birds in their gardens. Here’s another selection of photographs taken by Newbury Weekly News readers.
