Stags share spoils after hard-fought Frome draw Southern League South Frome Town 1 AFC Totton 1

IN a classic game of two halves, AFC Totton and Frome Town each left with a point after a 1-1 draw in the last match before lockdown at The Robins’ Nest. The Robins made a positive start to the match and could have gone into the break with more than the single- goal advantage they had. Kane Simpson found the breakthrough just eight minutes in when he headed in a corner after being left unmarked at the back post. The opener was quickly followed by a Jonathon Davies effort that blazed narrowly over the Totton crossbar. Totton keeper Lewis Noice was at his alert best, saving well from Alex Monks and Davies. Not only were the hosts carrying the more significant goal threat, but they were also putting in a superior work rate. Rex Mannings’ goalbound effort was denied by another Noice save before Monks headed wide from Jo O’Loughlin’s cross. As the first-half drew to close, Totton began to fashion chances. Brett Williams found the back of the net, only to turn and see the linesman holding up his flag, before Jack Masterton rattled the post with a superb curling freekick. The momentum continued with Totton after the break, and they almost levelled immediately when Harry

Medway headed wide from Masterton’s corner. Hisham Kasimu continued his recent trend of scoring vital goals after last week’s winner against Thatcham Town, by hooking home Sam Griffin’s cross from six yards on 65 minutes. Just after the equaliser, Frome had a penalty appeal waved away before Williams’ powerful low drive was saved by Robins keeper Max Evans. Both sides had chances to win it late on, with Totton’s best effort coming from second-half substitute Liam Robinson whose effort hit the crossbar, but the scores remained tied at 1-1. AFC Totton: L. Noice, G. Colson, R. Oatley, F. Read, H. Medway, S. Zubar, A. Tomasso, J. Masterton, H. Kasimu, B. Williams, S. Griffin. Subs: C. Feeney, A. Skryniarz, L. Waterfield, L. Robinson, S. Obeng. Young Badgers keep on making history

Forest claim first points in Poole win Hockey

Lockdown delays FA Vase second round THE draw for the second round of the FA Vase had a strong local interest with three clubs already qualified and Brockenhurst’s cup fu- ture still undecided. The ties were initially scheduled for 28th Novem- ber, but due to the nation- al lockdown new dates will have to be confirmed. Christchurch drew a home tie against Bristol side Cribbs FC, who won a thrilling match 4-3 against Sydenhams Wessex Division One side Newport IoW. Christchurch enters the hat at the second round after their FA Cup Third Qualifying Round penalty loss to Dulwich Hamlet, who play three divisions higher. Bashley’s fixture is still undecided with their poten- tial opponents, Millbrook or Sherborne Town, yet to play. To reach the second round, Bashley beat Keynsham Town 4-0 thanks to a Har- ry McGrath hat-trick and a strike from Harry Morgan. New Milton Town are in the midst of their best FA Vase cup run in eight years after a penalty shootout vic- tory over Clanfield 85. Their reward is a home tie against Hellenic League Premier side Longlevens FC. Brockenhurst are yet to book their spot in the next round after their match with Somerset’s Street FC was postponed.

Sam Wickins nearly got them back in the game just before the hour mark. Soon after, Wickins’ freekick hit a Brockenhurst defender and Puleo did superbly to tip away the goalbound deflection. The gloveman was unable to perform miracles, and Truro found the breakthrough with a quarter of an hour remaining. He stopped the initial strike, but Moran was on hand to pick up the scraps and drill the ball into the net from 12 yards. The Badgers’ nerves were tested in the dying minutes when James Swan worked an opening, but he could only find the side netting. Brockenhurst will play New- port County in the next round. Brockenhurst FC: B. Puleo, C. Ings, D. Grace, J. Booth, C. Brady, L. Colmer, S. Shearer, C. Hawkins, L. Nixon, J. Evans, B. Maatoug, B. Dukes. Subs: I. Ev- ans, J. Nugus, I. Ebejer, T. Colm- er, B. Truro City FC U18s 1 BROCKENHURST dominated most of the game against Tru- ro City, but the final 15 minutes were nervy, with the home side holding on to win 2-1 as the young Badgers’ historic cup run continues. The match, held in front of 300 spectators at Grigg Lane before lockdown, was Brocken- hurst’s first-ever appearance in the FA Youth Cup proper, and they extended the run by seal- ing a place in the second round. So far this season, Brocken- hurst carry a perfect record of 12 victories from 12 games Brockenhurst took a 2-0 lead into the break after goals from Jordan Evans and Liam Nixon, and three excellent saves from Ben Puleo. The White Tigers pulled one back through substi- tute Joe Moran.

Hampshire Division 2 (Women) Poole HC 1 New Forest HC IIs 3 BOTH sides went into the match with vastly differing form, but New Forest tore up the form book with a 3-1 away win over Poole. New Forest went into the match, before lockdown, off the back of four consecutive losses, while their opponents were flying high after scoring 18 goals in just three games. With torrential rain and strong winds, the match started with large areas of the pitch already covered in water. Despite this, Forest started brightly, and they took the lead within five minutes. Hall picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch before she drove into the D, slipping the ball to Jones who passed it into the goal. This early shock woke Poole up, and it wasn’t long before they struck back. Forest kept pushing forward in what was to a challenging but even first-half. Up front, youngster Bockle impressed along with Cox and Pitts against strong opposition. Forest extended their lead when Pitts finished off a well- worked penalty corner. This was quickly followed up by

The opening goal came 10 minutes in when a Connor Ings corner found the head of Evans, who put it into the top corner. The advantage was doubled 10 minutes later when Nixon capitalised on a slip by defend- er Archie McTeare by racing away and driving the ball home. The second half saw a re- newed impetus from the visi- tors, and a rasping shot from Keeper Ben Puleo had a superb game between the posts

Milton hope for fresh start post-lockdown Sydenhams Wessex Division One Whitchurch United FC 4 New Milton Town 0 them go five league games without a win with just one point collected. This leaves them languishing second-from- bottom with five points from nine fixtures. Whitchurch were on fire and looked very sharp upfront. They secured a 2-0 half-time lead with goals from George Bishop and Lloyd Thompson.

another Hall assist for Jones to give Forest a 3-1 lead. Poole continued to fashion chances and they were unfortunate not to pull one back before the break. Poole increased the pressure in the second half with play almost exclusively contested in the Forest half. Hoyle made several good clearances with the defence of Smith, Hook,

House and Cox all standing firm against an increasingly frustrated Poole attack. Poole continued to squander chances, and towards the end of the game Forest started to fight their way back into the game. When the final whistle came, out came the sun and Forest secured their first points of the season.

Whitchurch put the win beyond doubt with second-half strikes from Harry Edmondson and Nick Yeomans. The match was watched by 90 spectators.
