Woman given curfew by court A FIVE-WEEK curfew from 7pm-7am was handed to a Holbury woman after she admitted an attack. Kirstie Cronin (28), of Long Lane, was ordered by Southampton magistrates to pay £100 compensation to the victim, whom she assaulted by beating on 3rd May. She was banned from con- tacting the victim or another named witness in any way, including on social media, until 25th November 2021 and told to pay £85 court costs. Reverse advent for food banks TWO New Forest conve- nience stores are asking customers to take part in a reverse advent calendar scheme in which items are donated to food banks. The Southern Co-ops in Lyndhurst High Street and Long Lane in Holbury kicked off the initiative on Tuesday. Until 24th December custom- ers will be asked to donate a specific item each day, such as laundry detergent, tinned fish and meat and long life milk. HOMES were evacuated from a gas leak after a pipe cracked when a vehicle ploughed into a hedge in Brockenhurst. Firefighters cleared 18 resi - dents from properties within a 60-metre cordon around the crash scene. They were sent to the village hall before New Forest District Council secured emergency ac- commodation for them at the South Lawn Hotel in Milford. Emergency crews responded to the incident in Sway Road at around 7.30pm on Monday night. Engineers from utilities company SGN were called out to fix the leak and no injuries were reported. Tim Wedgwood, the hotel’s proprietor, told the A&T he and his staff were pleased to help out. NFDC footed the bill for putting the residents up over- night. “We’ve got no one in at the moment because of lockdown, so it was great to be able to help out,” Mr Wedgwood said on Tuesday. “Obviously, it’s a very wel- A REGIONAL centre will be set up in Bournemouth as part of efforts to distribute the corona- virus vaccines. The Bournemouth Interna- tional Centre (BIC) has been booked by health leaders who decided against the alternative of the Pavilion which would have had a more limited capac- ity, writes Josh Wright of the Local Democracy Reporting Service . The NHS-led programme is being organised in preparation for the potential availability of an approved vaccine in the coming weeks and to meet a requirement that systems be in place to administer it by the be- ginning of the month. Doses are expected to begin to be delivered within the next week although only in “limited” numbers, with older care home residents, care home workers, those who are housebound and prisons due to be prioritised. Widespread roll-out to the remaining high risk groups is expected in early 2021 with the use of mass vaccination hubs, including a regional centre at the Bic, and mobile sites across the rest of the county. This has been confirmed by Bournemouth East MP Tobias Ellwood who said Dorset Police would be involved in supporting the logistics of the work. “On a regional basis, Bourne- mouth has been selected as a regional hub for this quadrant of the south of England,” he said. “I have pushed for this for a long time.” Plans have been put together by the county’s NHS trusts in coordination with other bodies,

come bit of business for us as well as a nice opportunity to look after these people.” The helping hand from the hotel came after it also accom- modated homeless people in 22 rooms over 16 weeks during the first Covid-19 lockdown. In Sway Road, fire crews from stations including Brock- enhurst, Lymington, Beaulieu and Ringwood took turns pro- viding scene safety overnight as it remained closed for re- pairs. The gas supply was isolated by around 10.30am on Tues- day, with all residents able to return to their homes, accord- ing to the fire service spokes - person. A spokesperson for SGN told the A&T the repairs were completed but the road had re- mained closed between Wood- lands Road and the B3055 while the engineers filled in the exca - vations and restored the sur- face. The company hoped the clo- sure would be lifted by yester- day (Thursday). including councils. It has been agreed to set up a main vaccination hub at the Bic and that this will be supported by mobile sites provided across the rest of the county once larg- er quantities of doses become available. Difficulties in meeting the -70C storage temperature re- quired for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will mean Dorset Coun- ty Hospital (DCH) will be used as a main distribution hub. These arrangements were confirmed in reports published ahead of last week’s UHD and DCH board meetings. Doctors’ surgeries will over- see the first vaccinations, and the report added they were “well prepared to start in early December”, before the wider rollout becomes possible in the following weeks. Club’s vaccine venue claim A TOTTON football club claimed it has been chosen as a local venue for Covid-19 vaccinations. AFC Totton chair Wayne Mew said it was “very proud”, adding: “As a com- munity club, AFC Totton see this as a momentous event in the fight against the cov - id-19 pandemic.” However, organisers the NHS South Eastern Hamp- shire Clinical Commission- ing Group said it could not yet confirm any venues for the vaccination in the New Forest or wider county area.

MERRY hordes of Santa Claus- es are being urged to take on a revamped version of a popular festive fundraising fun run. For the past 10 years, Oakhaven Hospice’s annual Santa Dash has seen hundreds of people flock to Lyming - ton High Street to complete a 3km circuit dressed as Father Christmas. With the ongoing pandemic making the event impossible this year, the hospice is invit- ing people to complete a 3km course within their households over seven days from Monday 7th to Sunday 13th Decem- ber. During the Santa Dash Week, participants can don their Kris Kringle or other yuletide garb to run, walk, cycle, sail or row. Oakhaven fundraising manag- er Melanie Stone said: “This has been an incredibly difficult year for the hospice with many of our fundraising events cancelled. “Santa Dash is a fun event that brings the community to- gether. It is loved by everyone and really marks the start of Christmas.

TRAIL hunting has been tem - porarily suspended on New For- est Crown lands after a national hunting row sparked a police investigation. Forestry England confirmed it had followed the National Trust’s decision to stop trail hunting on land it owns, for the time being. “We have suspended all trail hunting licences on land man- aged by Forestry England, in- cluding the Crown lands of the New Forest,” an FE spokes- woman told the A&T. “This affects local groups that may have previously had permission for trail hunting. “The suspension will remain in place until Forestry England has enough new information to review the situation.” It has come after complaints were made to the police by anti-hunt activists about the content of webinars on trail hunting hosted by the Hunting Office, the sport’s governing body. a scent for hounds to follow. Hunts maintain they follow the letter of the law but accidents happen, such as when dogs fol- low a fake trail but find a real fox instead – which is not illegal. It has been confirmed webi - nar footage is being reviewed by the Crown Prosecution Service, a development welcomed by the League Against Cruel Sports. The Hunting Office told the A&T only one pack had been granted a licence this season by the National Trust, while “a small number of hunts” met

on Forestry England land so the majority of 200 trail hunts “won’t be impacted” by the sus- pension. In respect of the webinars, the Hunting Office pledged to “co-operate fully” with police, adding : “The purpose of the webinars held in August was very clearly to facilitate legal hunting, and any allegation that they were organised for any other purpose is completely incorrect.” The temporary ban does not affect the Boxing Day hunt in the New Forest since it has al- ready been cancelled. The New Forest Hounds de- clined to comment.
