Out & About Autumn 2018

2016 Berton Vineyard, Durif, Winemaker’s Reserve, South Eastern Australia, £28 Durif is also known as Petite Sirah and is a cross of Syrah and Peloursin. It has similarities with the well-known Syrah, with its spicy character reminiscent of freshly crushed black pepper and smoked bacon, although the palate is a bit lighter, not quite as jammy as its cousin. The palate is generally juicy with ripe cherry and light plum. 2014 Buitenverwachting, Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot, Constantia, South Africa £30 If you like Bordeaux reds, this is a must-try. Amazing value for money, full-bodied and luscious, packed with blackberry and blackcurrant flavours, the palate shows some lightly toasty and smokey nuances, with ripe tannins and a savoury edge – simply delicious.
