Jurgendstil Osiris Perhaps most synonymous of the Art Nouveau movement is worked metalware. This is a Jugendstil Osiris pewter basin designed by Georg Logan 1886-1939. The octagonal shaped basin with flange rim, features stylised flower heads with graduating impressed circles to each, each base of flower with stem sinking into basin to base uniting in a central circle, 45cm diameter x 10cm high. Charles and Ray Eames A personal favourite furniture design of mine is Charles and Ray Eames, although the 1958 Aluminium Group office chair is something I would love to own, we were lucky enough to have a Charles and Ray Eames 670 lounge chair and ottoman as part of this auction. The iconic five bladed base of the 670/671 was originally designed as a contract table base. However, following on from initial calligraphy by Sister Corita Kent, sumptuous and luxurious materials were sourced to make the furniture stand above everything else and the design evolved to an iconic set up. Such was the attention to detail that the leather sourced to use for the upholstery was from Scotland, as farmers did not use barbed wire there, so the skin was unblemished. Although having been produced for some 60 years, the design has never altered such was and is the quality of it. Not only is the design featured in museum displays worldwide, but also the second ever example produced was given to film director Billy Wilder. Wilder had previously gifted the designers a Modernist chair, which Charles had reputably often said he loved so much he wished he had designed it himself.
