NEWBURYTOWN HALL More than 30 years ago, Newbury Town Hall was the district’s registry office, and many local people have fond memories of family weddings being held there. Recently, Newbury Town Council succeeded in having the town hall licensed for wedding ceremonies once again, and the first wedding was held there in July. The town hall, as a Victorian listed building, is full of character, and provides a number of stunning backdrops for wedding photographs. The wedding ceremonies are held in the council chamber, which has capacity for 55 guests. The room is impressive, with its high ceiling and lists of Newbury mayors around the walls dating back to 1596. The sweeping oak staircase is perfect for group photographs, as is the civic entrance onto the Market Place. As an optional extra, the happy couple and guests can have a champagne toast in the town hall after the ceremony, and can book the council chamber for the reception afterwards – either hiring caterers or self-catering. Alternatively, being in the town centre, there are plenty of restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance where the wedding party can continue their celebrations. The booking fee includes an hour before and after the ceremony, giving time to personalise the ceremony with flowers, musicians etc and plenty of time for photographs.
