The most important event in the Town & Manor of Hungerford’s calendar, the early medieval Hocktide is also one of England’s most ancient – in fact Hungerford is the only town in England to carry on this tradition. So what’s it all about? Here’s a brief explanation, with a bit of help from Hungerford’s archives. And we’ve unearthed some other quirky local traditions
