Newbury, Leanne Robey, gives her expert advice and helps us all avoid those common bathroom redesign mistakes. Read on, it will help you to achieve your dream bathroom, better yet, visit Ripples Newbury... Choosing the wrong tiles A tile will look very different on its own, compared to how it looks when it’s in place in your bathroom. It’s absolutely vital that people think about where they want their tiles placed, the colour and size, before they make a final decision, as these decisions will have a huge impact on the overall design. Choosing incompatible products It’s my job to work with a customer to ensure that the correct products for their home are chosen. For example, your water system will hugely affect what you can buy (eg: gravity fed system, combination boiler and pressurised system). Knowing what type of water pressure you have and how it’s supplied to the bathroom will allow you to maximize the choice of product and allow you to achieve maximum flow rates in your new bathroom. Not considering use and lifestyle When I design a bathroom I really need to understand the lifestyle of my customers, that’s why it’s important to visit their home first. I ask my customers how they use their bathroom, who uses it and how much time they spend in

requirements and design the perfect bathroom for them. If they have children, then I would suggest looking at low-line baths, or if they like a selection of beauty products in their bathroom, we look at storage solutions that work in the space. Neglecting finishing touches I always suggest to my customers that they should retain a small amount of budget to allow for finishing touches. It’s important to think about doors and door handles, lighting, windowsills, blinds/shutters and paint too. Not spending enough As in all walks of life, you do generally get what you pay for. Cutting costs will inevitably impact in the longer term. If a customer spends more on a product, they will find that they are more innovative, design-led and most importantly, better quality. Spending money on installation should also be a high priority. A bad fitting can really ruin a bathroom design, opt for a good quality installer and the design will become a reality Visit Ripples Newbury to speak to one of our designers. 51a London Rd, Newbury RG14 1JN
