Out and About - Winter 2021

B as Books & Home in the Kennet Centre opened its doors on September 28th 2020 as part of a fundraising initiative by Sebastian’s Action Trust to further expand the charity’s activities in supporting the families of seriously-ill children. The trust was founded from the last wish of one very special nine-year- old boy just 12 days before he died of cancer in 2003 and now provides emotional, social and practical care for more than 600 life-limited and life-threatened children and their families across the region. This support includes planned and crisis breaks at their flagship holiday home, The Bluebells in North Waltham near Basingstoke, together with outreach and specialist support at their second centre, The Woodlands in Crowthorne. A comprehensive outreach service aims to reduce isolation, provide meaningful support and build resilience to help their beneficiaries face the uncertainties of the future. The trust receives no statutory funding so is totally reliant on their own fundraising and the generosity of supporters. At Sebastian’s Action Trust, the team passionately believe seriously- ill children should be able to have quality time together with their families, never having to face life alone. Their vision is to ensure lives, however short, are lived to the full. Bas Books & Home offers a continually changing range of pre loved bric-a-brac, books, furniture and children’s toys, all donated by supporters from Newbury and the surrounding area and anybody wishing to show their support either with donations of stock or volunteering their time and expertise in the shop should contact the store manager Ashley Pearce on 07436 408059.
