Silverstone Lap of lights

Not everyone can say they’ve driven the Formula 1 Grand Prix circuit, and even fewer can say they’ve done it in complete darkness under dramatic lights and laser shows… until now. Silverstone’s Lap of Lights opens this festive period and offers a very different set of Christmas activities. The self-driven lap around the track will follow Santa’s journey around the world, making it fun for kids, as well as mum and dad. With more than 400 laser beams and 400,000 festive lights, this will no doubt be an unforgettable drive. A certain someone will also be making a pit-stop on the track every night… no, not Lewis Hamilton, Father Christmas will be there to wave on visitors as they complete their once-in-a- lifetime lap. At the drop of the chequered flag, Santa’s little racers can then take a glide on an illuminated ice rink around the Formula 1 garages and pit lane, something that has never

been done before. If skating isn’t your thing, relax at the Silverstone Wing which houses the pits and paddock for the Formula 1 British Grand Prix, which will be transformed into an alpine lodge in a fun family setting, which slowly adopts a party atmosphere as the evening progresses. With activities such as axe throwing, curling, live music and a children’s cinema, there is plenty to get stuck into, as well as a sweetie bar to keep the little ones fuelled. Oh, and Santa will be handing over the reins on

the track to come and DJ. Last year’s event, ‘Lap Land’, despite falling into the challenges of Covid, ran for 24 nights over the festive period and received around 200,000 visitors. Silverstone managing director Stuart Pringle said this year will bring a “longer and brighter lap but also an alpine style Winter Lodge in the Silverstone Wing and an Ice Track”. Lap of Lights runs from November 26 to January 3 (closed on Christmas Day). For more information, visit www.silverstone.co.uk/ events/lap-of-lights
