Out and About - Winter 2021

Meet The Artist Susan Acworth.

Meet the Artist Ursula Waechter - Potter

Ursula accepts commissions for lettered pieces – bowls, plates, mugs and other shapes - to mark a special occasion like a wedding or birth. She also offers individual tuition in throwing on the wheel and brushwork decoration and runs small ‘bespoke’ group workshops on hand-building and decorating.

On completing her ceramics studies at Bath Academy of Art, Ursula specialised in Maiolica - tin-glazed earthenware. After working in Bath for a few years she moved to Berkshire to join Alan Caiger-Smith’s Aldermaston Pottery, to learn more about the tin glaze technique and brushwork decoration. She has had her own studio since 2006. Ursula makes a range of functional and decorative pottery with most pots thrown on the wheel. Pots are biscuit fired and covered with a tin glaze before being painted with designs using brushes and mixtures of coloured oxides.

Sue has a life-long interest in the countryside to which many of her pictures are related. She captures the ebb and flow of the seasons with her colourful depictions of woodlands, animals and landscapes. Sue works with pastels on sandpaper and uses techniques that almost add a third dimension to her pictures.
