Best in Berkshire at county show

The duo’s love of horses and passion for racing is clear through- out their online videos. The popular Vintage Area has moved near the cattle building and will be offering more vintage vehicles, more displays and demonstrations, as well as a tractor-trailer ride and there will be a classic car collection. Elsewhere across the 150-acre showground, visitors can sample some of the delightful food and beverages available in the Food Hall and watch craftsman skillfully create another masterpiece in the Craft Marquee. This year there will be a group of blacksmiths who will be demonstrating the art of creating objects from wrought iron and steel. Visitors will also be able to help themmake a pointer stick. The Food and Farming Zone will be celebrating British farming with a number of fun and interesting hands-on activities for all the family. The award-winning stand by Reading University will return once again to challenge their title, and the Produce Tent will be a hive of activity, with interactive displays and demonstrations. There’s plenty to see and do across the weekend.

THE Royal County of Berkshire Show returns this weekend in spectacular style, with a brand new layout, new activities and attractions topping the Main Arena bill. The organisers are very excited to be showcasing the new-look show as well as welcoming back many popular attractions such as the revamped Food Hall, which has a brand new location in the Food & Farming Zone. The newly-named Flower & Wedding Marquee can be found in all its loveliness alongside the Craft Marquee on Avenue A, and all your furry friends are welcome once again, with the return of the Dog Zone, where you can enjoy fun competitions and activities. Plus, children can go for just £1 this year. Topping the Main Arena bill are the fantastic Extreme Bike Battle, the UK’s biggest premier stunt show with world-class professional riders offering fast and furious stunts, jumps and backflips. Guards Polo Club, established in 1955 by HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, consists of more than 160 professional players. They will be showing their world-class skills with their courageous ponies. And last, but not least, a spectacular farmmachinery

sheep and pigs, to llamas doing an egg-and-spoon race and in the chicken section you’ll be able to decorate an egg. The mini petting farm returns with a collection of adorable donkeys, chicks, goats, pigs and many more. The fresh, new look Equine line-up includes lots of brand new classes that cater for all levels of equine competitors, from Shetlands to Shires. Internet sensations Wocket Woy and the Pwoducers will be commentating on the retraining of racehorses classes on the Saturday.

Livestock owners appreciate the friendly end-of-season event for the show circuit and it regularly attracts entrants from right across Britain, with more than 2,000 animals competing. Horsey heaven

Now classed as one of the largest competing events in the Equestrian calendar, Equifest attracts more than 10,000 riders each year. The schedule caters for all in-hand and ridden classes, young stock to veterans, grassroots to Royal International Horse Show qualifiers, and with more than 350 entries in 2018, the team is looking forward to an exciting weekend of showing. The Heavy Horse Section will be offering an amazing selection of these magnificent horses up close, with traditional Harness and Farm Turnout classes giving everyone an opportunity to see these animals in their true glory. The beautiful Ladies Cart Display returns, with riders decked out in their stunning attire and there will also be the Ridden Heavy Horse competition, including new qualifiers for the Rare Breed Show. The final for Saturday and Sunday competitors will include the championship of the Heavy Horse Turnout teams. Definitely something not to be missed. The Formula one of equine, the British National Scurry Driving Championships will be wowing the crowds once more, driving at fast and furious paces around the Main Arena while avoiding

It will be a delight to watch. Internet sensations, Wocket Woy and the Pwoducer will be bringing their hilarious humour to the show by commentating on the Retraining of Racehorses classes on the Saturday. Lottie and her team will be covering all areas of equine, making sure not to miss a single moment of the magic that will take place in the rings. The School Show jumping Qualifier returns, where local schools enter a team of three to four members, aged between five and 19 years, to compete for a place at the 2020 National Final of the British Show jumping National Championships. All of these amazing new additions complement the usual spectacular line-up of heavy horses, coaching, side-saddle, Olympia Qualifiers and show jumping. So why not pop along to this new-look area as there will certainly be something for all the family to enjoy?

A SPECTACULAR collection of horses and riders will face a fresh and exciting schedule at the new-look Equine Section. The organisers listened to feedback from last year’s show and have developed this year’s line-up to include lots of brand new classes that cater for all levels of equine competitors, from Shetlands to Shires. The Coaching Section offers a stunning display of teamwork and amazing synchronisation, playing host to the largest coaching marathon in the country, with many coaches travelling from far and wide, having competed around the country and Europe. This year a new trophy is up for grabs for the highest-placed modern coach built after 1952, as well as watching the judging of the magnificent Coaching Marathon and Horn Blowing competition. The new extended Coaching Area will also provide an opportunity to view the horses getting ready. The British Show jumping International Stairway competition tops the show-jumping bill, offering an opportunity to see existing British team members and new talent competing for prize money. In the Light Horse Section, the show organisers are excited to be introducing a new schedule, including a selection of the 2020 Equifest Qualifiers.

The local Newbury & District Beekeepers Association will be offering lots of interesting and fun activities, such as an observation hive of live bees, displays and demonstrations and honey tastings, as well as a fun quiz for kids and a candle-rolling workshop. AT this year’s show, you’ll find many great demonstrations, displays and spectacular shows for all the family to enjoy. THE Newbury & District & Agricultural Society are pleased to be welcoming the amazing Extreme Bike Battle to the Royal County of Berkshire Show. Launching into the air with spectacular style, Extreme Bike Battle is the UK’s biggest premier stunt show, having performed at many of the UK’s biggest events – from the F1 and Moto GP to theme parks and county shows across the country. The Extreme Bike Battle fuses multiple disciplines together for the ultimate adrenaline- fuelled show. A fearless team of world-class professional riders will be performing in two different arenas at the show this year: n In the Main Arena, the FMX Motorbike Display Team will be performing death-defying stunts and flying up to 35ft through the air while performing unbelievable moves including the elusive backflips. n In the Activity Zone, the pedal-powered team with mountain bikes will be leaping across ladders and platforms to BMX backflips and on the jump box. The teams will be raising the level with each move to create an amazing spectacle not to be missed. When I first arrived at the Adoption Centre I had a flea allergy, it made a lot of my fur fall out. I am told I look rather adorable now it has grown back. I’m quite an independent little cat. I can be sweet at times and I will let you know if I want attention. My new owner needs to understand that I like attention on my own terms and a place to retreat to when I want time alone. Newbury Cats Protection – helping cats for over 50 years

C ats Protection is the UK’s largest feline welfare charity. It’s dedicated to rescuing and rehoming cats, as well as educating people about cats and cat welfare. Some cats come into their care because they can no longer be looked after by their owners. Others are strays, while sometimes an owner may need to move and a new landlord won’t allow them to keep pets. Whatever the reason, Cats Protection is there to help. The Adoption Centre has 30 cat pens and rehomes approximately 500 cats every year. The Newbury Adoption Centre is entirely self- funded and every year over £125,000 is required through fund-raising to help with the costs of running the centre, including expensive veterinary
