Hi, I’m Lyndy, and here’s my quick guide on how to transform that tired old piece of furniture, turning trash to treasure!

Preparation • Clean. Thoroughly • Remove wax with white spirit

• Lightly sand glossy/varnished surfaces • Fill holes/gaps with wood filler then sand Paint • Use a good quality furniture paint. This cabinet has been painted in Annabell Duke Mineral Paint (self-priming/self-levelling/self-sealing) in Periwinkle • Synthetic brushes • Masking tape; use ‘low tack’ with bleed/block technology • Follow manufacturers guidelines on painting and drying times • Older furniture can be stained using tannins, which, when painted can ‘bleed’ causing discolouration. Use a solvent based primer such as Zinsser BIN NB Lighter colours need more coats; try a grey colour as a first coast! Finishing • Your inner artist can now emerge, such as decoupage (see pic) or stencilling • Finally, seal your masterpiece with wax, varnish or sealant
