incredible stretches of water, especially in this part of the country,” she says as we paddle along the (thankfully) still waters. “The canal in particular offers a safe and friendly environment in which to learn and enjoy the sport. It’s glorious to be outside, on the water, with nature, but it also helps keep you fit and healthy and it’s good for body and mind. “Many enjoy the different perspective you get of the water compared to when viewed from the land and are struck by how peaceful it is. “It’s also very sociable, being able to chat while paddling.” Another great aspect of the sport, is that it is very accessible and the Canal and River Trust sums it up well: “It is perfect for people of all ages, body types and skill levels and can be as exciting or calming as you’d like to make it.” From yoga on the water, to racing, to family adventures and fitness training, there is something for everyone to enjoy about SUP.
