Queen Mary’s College

gained places at the most presti- gious universities include Leah Thomas who is now studying Anglo-Saxon and Celtic Studies at the University of Cambridge and Harry Hall who is studying Politics and International Rela- tions at Birmingham University. Leah Thomas speaks very highly of the support and opportunities provided by QMC; sentiments echoed by all of the students, including Megan D’Souza, who would “like to thank [her] teach- ers” for helping her achieve such brilliant results. QMC has a wide range of courses on offer, catering for all abilities, and offers direct buses into college from the Newbury, Thatcham and Kingsclere areas. Open evenings give prospective students and their parents the opportunity to discover what makes QMC so special, like the fantastic facilities available across all subjects such as art, sport and science, and the team will happily discuss students’ options to help them get where they want to go. With excellent results year on year and a vibrant atmosphere, students are encouraged to engage in the many opportuni- ties open to them at Queen Mary’s College. Each individual is supported to achieve their full potential, not just in terms of qualifications, but also using transferable skills and resilience. Students leave with a bright future ahead, whether progress- ing to university, apprentice- ships, sponsored degrees, further training or meaningful employ- ment. With enthusiastic and committed teachers and superb facilities, the majority of students at QMC do far better than they ever thought possible when they started. With nearly 2,000 entries at A- level, the overall pass rate last year was 99 per cent. The college has a well-deserved reputation for excellent results and 2017 was no exception with almost 50 per cent of all grades awarded being high grades – A*- B. Many students supplement their A-level programme with an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), an independent research project of their choice designed to develop many of the skills required for higher education or employment.

More than 66 per cent of all students taking this qualification gained either an A* or A grade in 2017. QMC excels in the STEM subjects of maths and science and, as a result, many talented students are able to pursue dreams of prestigious careers in

areas such as Medicine and Veterinary Science. Some recent examples include: n Yimin Zong, (A*A*A*) who came to QMC from Testbourne Community School and is now at Oxford University studying Physics.

n Megan D’Souza (A* A* A) from Bishop Challoner School has gone on to study Engineering at Warwick University. Success is not limited to the sciences. Other students who achieved the highest grades and therefore

n Kirsty Brown (A* A* A A) from Robert May’s School is studying Liberal Arts and Natural Science at the University of Birmingham. n Nathan Piper (A* A* A*) from Aldworth School is studying Medicine at Southampton University.
