Solent Hearing Slimming World

H aving been in the hearing industry for the past 17 years, I have worked with all the major high street retailers, some small independents and many of the ENT departments along the South Coast. This has given me a wealth of knowledge and a broad depth of industry experience both in the public and private sectors.  I have also managed to utilise my skills to help and develop trainees new to audiology, all of whom are now very accomplished in their own right.  My aim was always to have my own hearing practice but the various roles I took on saw me travel around the UK and I also travelled abroad with my wife whenever the opportunity arose so I seemed to be always waiting to find the right place to settle, and here I am….! Having worked and lived in Hampshire for 8 years, I aim to keep running my business here for the benefit of the local New Forest communi- ty until I retire – which is many years away...  Being truly independent, I

have the ability to source the whole of the market to find hear - ing solutions that are right for you – I am not obligated to any single manufacturer – meaning I will always do what is best for you!  There are also many other benefits which I am able to pass on directly, such as my 5-year manufacturer’s warranty and my unbeatable after care package which includes: FREE batteries, FREE regular hearing assess - ments, FREE regular servicing and minor repairs, FREE accesso - ries AND FREE WAX REMOVAL – ALL FOR THE LIFETIME OF YOUR HEARING AIDS!!   I have seen the good, the bad and the downright ugly during my time as an audiologist and put customer care at the fore- front of everything I do. Com- munication is key to life and my main objective, my driving force, is quite simply to help those with a hearing impairment to hear better and enjoy life more by offering unbiased, professional advice and affordable hearing solutions.

Sue started her Slimming world journey after a hysterectomy threw her into early menopause. As a result she began to gain a few pounds and these pounds turned to stones. As someone who had not really needed to worry about her weight before, this loss of control made her feel ashamed and unattractive. After plucking up the courage to attend a local Slimming World group and, in fairness, not real- ly believing that the plan could help her, Sue has gone on to lose 3 stone and her weight and her confidence are exactly where she

Sue says “I have always cooked from scratch, so that made things quite easy for me, howev- er we share so many ideas each week in group that even people who were not confident cooks enjoyed making simple, healthy meals for themselves and their families. I love that I can build all the food and drink I enjoy into my weekly plan, I have learned how to limit certain foods that cause weight gain and make small changes to our favourite recipes so they are still just as tasty. Over my 3 years as a Slimming World member, I have learned a lot about my relationship with food and now it is time to help others to follow their own weight loss journey and to achieve their dreams.”

I nvisalign clear aligners straighten teeth more pre- dictably and more comfort- ably than other aligners and braces. Not only are they almost invisible to the naked eye, they are also fully removable. This means you can continue to eat your favourite foods or even remove the aligners for special occasions. How Invisalign works Invisalign works with a se- ries of laboratory crafted, clear aligners which fit snugly to your teeth, each one neatly shaped slightly closer to your final smile. The aligners, which are designed

with 3D imaging software, en- sure a high degree of accuracy of movement, and allow you to plan and customise your desired result with your orthodontist. As your teeth move, we move you onto the next set of aligners until your perfect smile is achieved. The aligners are made of SmartTrack material, so they are more comfortable to wear and easier to put on and take off than other brands of aligner. Tips for wearing a mask

A ll of us whether we have a hearing loss or not rely on seeing peo- ple’s face to pick up on the emotion, expression and lip shape to add to our understanding of what is being said.

2. Use both hands. Make sure nothing else is in your hands when putting on or removing your mask and focus only on the task in hand ie, don’t try to fit or remove mask whilst distracted talking on the phone or putting shopping in the car. 3. Remove one side at a time, take your time. Maybe take your hearing aids out first and keep them somewhere safe whilst you then remove the mask. 4. Find a safe place. Pick a spot where your hearing aids are easily discoverable should they fall out – over a table, at home, in the car 5. Make sure that the

checking. Remember to keep checking that the hearing aids are still in place during fitting, wearing and following removal of the mask. Before leaving a location check that your hearing aids are still in your ears. Before you discard masks or put reusable ones in the washing machine check that your hearing aids are not tangled up in the mask straps.

Of course, those of us with a hearing loss rely on this a lot more. When the person we are speaking with is wearing a mask which covers most of their face we lose this information and it can make it a real challenge to follow conversation. In addition to this, face masks can distort and muffle some soft high frequency sounds making it difficult to discriminate some consonants ie; did some- one say “chair, stare or share”? Wearing a mask in public

spaces and whilst it has been well documented that people who suffer from a hearing loss have found communication increasing- ly challenging during these times, it is not the only problem. The most common type of over-the- ear face mask puts hearing aid users more at risk of losing their behind-the-ear devices as they become entangled upon removal. In fact, latest research shows that there has been a surge in lost or misplaced hearing aids during the Covid-19 pandemic. Below we’ve listed some recom- mendations to help reduce your risk of losing your hearing aids. 1. Use a mask that goes

Most modern digital hearing aids are so discrete and natural sounding that it is quite easy for their loss to go unnoticed whilst you’re out and about, so hopeful- ly these tips should help during these unprecedented times. Most hearing aids have a “Find My Hearing Aid” feature which allows you to track your hearing aid via GPS through your smartphone.
