event will not be as crowded as in previous years. A cascade of red and white will run through the town when the Great Thatcham Santa Run returns on Sunday, December 10. Thatcham Rotary Club’s event sees runners don the famous suits for a 5km charity dash around the town in aid of charities. Registration is open now, so sign up at www.rotarythatcham.org.uk Adult entry is £15 and £10 for students aged under 18. Entry for children under eight costs £7. Money raised goes to The Rosemary Appeal and other local charities. The festive dash begins at 11am and you can also raise funds for your own charitable cause. A civic carol service will be held at St Mary’s Church, at 4pm on Sunday, December 10. Refreshments will be served afterwards and a collection will be held for the mayor ’s charities, The Rosemary Appeal and Young People and Children 1st. No tickets are required and all are welcome.

DON’T be lonely this Christmas and embrace Thatcham’s community spirit when the town’s lights twinkle into life. Bedecked in lights and decorations, The Broadway will once again become the town’s festive focal point from 5pm on Friday, December 1. Steam engines, donkeys and charity stalls, offering games and prize draws all feature. On stage will be live music and entertainment and community carol singing. Some businesses will also be staging their own events and staying open for longer on the night. The mayor of Thatcham, Ellen Crumly, will perform the switch-on at 7pm, joined by Father Christmas and his sleigh. This year’s switch-on is set to feature more lights, but a slight drop in stalls, owing to a rearrangement of the market area. Thatcham Town Council, which organises the event, hopes that the switch around will mean that the
