Ebbsfleet 3 Hungerford 2 HUNGERFORD showed they could ruffle the feathers of the National League South’s biggest clubs after falling to a narrow defeat at Ebbsfleet, writes Ciaran Morrison . But they will be kicking themselves for not chalking up their fourth straight win after leading 2-1 at half-time and seeing the home side reduced to 10 men. Mike Jones opened the scor- ing three minutes into the match. Callum Willmoth’s free-kick from the left found Jones, who fired past keeper Jordan Holmes. The lead only lasted five minutes as Fleet forward Reece Grant was played in on goal and calmly finished past Luke Cair- ney. Willmoth nearly turned from provider to scorer, shooting inches wide of a post following a cleared James Rusby long throw. United had multiple opportu- nities to take a first-half lead with Rakish Bingham denied by the fingertips of Cairney. The goalkeeper made a good save from Bobby-Joe Taylor’s strike and Bingham blazed over the rebound. Grant then hit the post, but it was Hungerford who retook the lead on 37 minutes. Ryan Seager played in Luke Hopper who passed the ball into ROBBIE Sadler played the star- ring role as Hungerford Town Swifts made it four out of four in Division 2 South. Sadler scored one and set up another to help Swifts to a 4-0 victory over Swindon Superma- rine Development. Mark James headed them in front from a Sadler corner and Sadler made it 2-0 with 25-yard free-kick. Soon after, good work by Kias Bonner-Shea set up George Armstrong to add a third before half-time, and Sam Connors wrapped it up, curling a shot into the top corner after a one-two with Shaun Thorp. Swifts manager Mike McNally said: “Supermarine are a good side, but we stuck to our game plan and scored four good goals. “There is a good vibe at Hungerford at the moment and a few old faces are coming back to the club.” Letcombe produced a brilliant second-half display to outgun Old Woodstock Town 8-1. Michael Annetts made the most of a goalkeeping howler to score the only goal of the first half. But Letcombe stepped up the pace in the second half and created chances with almost every attack. Luke Polding added a second from the penalty spot then Josh Fowler and Harry Green struck in quick succession to make it 4- 0. Fowler and Green struck again before Chad Abrams got on the HELLENIC LEAGUE

The wave of red kept coming and Cairney had to be alert to deny Taylor and Bingham. Hungerford’s resistance finally broke when Martin found space in the area before making it 2-2, then he turned provider to set up Taylor to head past the despairing dive of Cairney. Hungerford pushed for a late equaliser with Jones’ attempt curling inches wide and Curtis Angell heading straight at Holmes. Crusaders will look to bounce back on Saturday when they face the toughest test of the season so far as they entertain unbeaten leaders Dorking Wanderers at Bulpit Lane. KINTBURY Rangers Develop- ment withstood a Burghclere fightback to clinch a thrilling 3-2 victory in Division2. Rangers looked to be cruising to victory as they led 3-1 at the break with goals from Simon Banner, Josh Staples and Kieran McClair. Cholsey United marched into the second round of the Charity Shield, James Purdue earning them a 1-0 win at Divi- sion 2 Letcombe Res. But Lambourn Sports crashed out after going down 4- 0 at top-flight rivals East Hendred. In Division 2, Lambourn Res lost 5-1 at home to leaders Watlington Town Res. Frilsham & Yattendon made it four wins out of four in Division 3. The team made up mainly of veterans eased to a 3-0 win over Berinsfield Res thanks to goals from Russell Benham, Marc Green and John Taylor.

Manager Adam Clark said: “To be honest, I was quite angry after the game because it was a very one-sided affair and we should have been out of sight by half-time. “I think Portland got in our box once in the second half and I lost count of the number of chances we missed.” Everything looked to be going to plan when an unmarked Josh Drew turned in a Jordan Goater corner after only five minutes. But Jamie Johnstone saw two good chances go begging and Connor Thorne, who has just resigned for the club, was denied by the keeper. And it was totally against the run of play when Portland levelled with a free header from a corner just before the break. It was one-way traffic in the second half as Tadley piled forward. But a succession of chances went begging and they had to settle for a draw. Clark said: “It was certainly two points dropped, but on the positive side we looked very dangerous and defended well all game.” Tadley, though, bounced back with a tremendous 5-0 home win over Bournemoth on Tues- day. Brad Neal led the way with two of the goals, while Andrew Charsley, Tom Walsh and Josh Elms fired them to their biggest win of the season Tadley are at home to second- from-bottom Shaftesbury on Saturday before they visit Blackfield & Langley next Tues- day.
