Pope leads ’Church to narrowwin at Bashley

Sydenhams Wessex Premier Bashley FC 0 Christchurch FC 1 BASHLEY dominated this hard-fought contest’s early exchanges, but Christchurch broke the deadlock with a lethal counter-attack to score the only goal at the Glen Mex Stadium on Tuesday. After the goal, both sides battled to get a grip of the game with the majority of the play a robust midfield contest. Bashley had the slightly better chances, but resolute defending from the visitors preserved their lead. Bashley’s dominance in the first 20 minutes was absolute with Harry Bunce and Ollie Bradley dynamic on the flanks, firing crosses into the area. Cameron Beard came within a whisker’s breadth of making it 1-0 before Conor Whitley forced a great save from Christchurch keeper Lewis Gunstone-Gray. Throughout the onslaught, the well-organised Christ- church defence stood firm. Just before the half-hour mark, a break by the visitors found Ash Pope free on the right. The number nine fired a fierce shot across Bashley keeper Sammy Thompson and into the corner of the net.

The second half was an evenly contested affair which rarely reached either goal areas. Gunstone-Gray was marginally the busier of the two keepers, and he was fortunate to see McGrath’s strike clatter off the upright. With 13 minutes left Christchurch’s Ron Frost received his second yellow, with Bunce also cautioned. Both sides are in FA Vase Second Round action tomorrow (Saturday). Christchurch are at home against Cribbs FC, while

Blackfield’s Sami Makhloufi bags a brace in Brockenhurst battering

Lymington extend perfect league run

Sydenhams Wessex Premier Cowes Sports FC 0 Lymington Town FC 1 LYMINGTON Town main- tained their perfect start to the season with a 1-0 win at Cowes Sports FC’s Westwood Park on Tuesday. The south coast side started the match without their captain, former AFC Bournemouth Academy player Tim Stephenson. In a cagey affair, the two sides were separated by a single goal scored by Nathan Hurst. The win means Lymington have taken maximum points from their nine league fixtures, and the clean sheet preserves their extraordinary defensive streak which has seen them concede just once all season. The three points lift Lymington into second place in the league, one point behind leaders Hamworthy United with two games in hand. Lymington Town take on Amesbury away in the league tomorrow (Saturday).

Sydenhams Wessex Premier Brockenhurst FC 0 Blackfield & Langley FC 3 BLACKFIELD & Langley re- sumed their league campaign with a comprehensive 3-0 vic- tory over Brockenhurst at the Meadens Skoda Arena on Tues- day. The visitors got off to a tre- mendous start and dominated throughout, never allowing the Badgers to get a foothold. Blackfield’s bright start was rewarded after just 70 seconds when referee Thomas Cop- ping pointed to the spot. Sami Makhloufi converted with con- fidence, rooting Brock keeper James Mayo to the spot with his stuttering run-up and mis- direction. Blackfield doubled their ad- vantage in the 27th minute when Mitchell Speechley-Price, who has played more than 150 games for Brockenhurst, slot- ted home. After the break, Brockenhurst

Makhloufi his stuttering run-up, succeeding this time to his left. Blackfield spurned multiple chances to get their fourth goal in the final 10 minutes with Speechley-Price looking the most likely to score. Both sides are in action to- morrow (Saturday), Black- field in league action at home against Bournemouth Poppies, and Brockenhurst taking on US Portsmouth away in the FA Vase. manager Pat McManus tried to shift the game’s flow by substituting James Shorey for

Eder Batista. Unfortunately for the 101 Badgers fans in attendance, Copping pointed

to the spot in the 57th minute when a player was clipped from behind.
