Badgers dig in before perfect shootout win FA Vase First Round Brockenhurst FC 2 Street FC 2 Brock win 5-3 on penalties yards with Jude Nwachukwu, Bullard, Grange and Toby Bailey all scoring.
Osman unleashed a wonder strike from 25 yards which flew into the bottom corner, beating keeper Karl Steinborne-Busse. The visitors were the better side for the majority of the match, but East Cowes had some decent chances late on, and could have snatched all three points. Ringwood Town manager Richard Morse said: “The match was always going to have a cagey start, but I thought we were the better side in the first half, and we played some decent football. “In the second half we started to slowabit andwegot punished for it when East Cowes took the lead. We reacted well, though, and quickly got the equaliser from a cracking 25-yarder from skipper Ryan Osman. “After that, we had excellent chances to win the game, but we couldn’t convert them. “Happy with the draw, but slightly frustrated as I thought we did enough to win the game. Brockenhurst manager Pat McManus said: “I had an in- depth report on Street which proved extremely helpful. We knew their front four would be difficult to contain, but there were areas that we knew we would be able to exploit. “After an even first hour with the score at 2-2, Street started to dominate and created several opportunities which were repelled by the superb James Mayo. “We’re now looking forward to our FA Vase Second Round tie against US Portsmouth and a busy schedule of league matches now that we’ve returned.” Brock’s match against US Portsmouth will be away at the Victory Stadium on Saturday 12th December. The win means the Badgers have progressed to the FA Vase Second Round for the fourth consecutive season. Brockenhurst: J. Mayo, D. Manufor, T. Barnes, J. Nwachukwu, P. Wilson, B. Magookin, T. Bailey, J. Shorey, F. Bullard, A. Grange, L. Carbayo-Borges. Subs: E. Kitcher, B. Maatoug, C. Ings, H. White, S. White.
BROCKENHURST held their nerve scoring all five penalties in a one-sided shootout after hanging on for the last half hour of a 2-2 draw with Street FC at the Meadens Skoda Arena on Sunday. The match was originally scheduled for Saturday, and was pushed back after failing a pitch inspection. However, Brockenhurst’s volunteers went above and beyond to ensure the game went ahead. Failure to do so would have seen the fixture reversed, with Somerset’s Street FC hosting. The visitors made a bright start and forced keeper James Mayo into action, pushing the ball around the post for a corner after just seven minutes. Brockenhurst’s Adam Grange won a corner after a good run and a cross from the flank. Grange almost broke the deadlock from the resulting corner, but the ball flew just wide of the post. Around 15 minutes in, Freddie Bullard’s free-kick deflected out for a corner. The ball was floated in before making its way to the feet of Brockenhurst U23s manager
Castle’s woes continue at Scottish Open
BURLEY Golf Club ladies section have appointed Jo Clarke as their new captain. Jo, who grew up in New Milton, first experienced golf was as a schoolgirl when she worked as a waitress at a local golf club. It was another 30 years before she took up the sport when, in 2014, she and her husband John joined Burley. They have been active members since. She previously worked in North Carolina for 10 years and then at NATS, the UK air traffic control provider, for 23 years before recently retiring. Jo said: “I’m delighted that there is a renewed interest in golf this year. Many more people are enjoying the benefits of golf, which include physical health, mental wellbeing, and a great way to make friends. “The ladies section is very active and caters for all BILLY Joe Castle has got only one thing on his Christmas list this year – a brand new snooker cue. The Marchwood potter slipped to a 4-2 defeat in the first round of the Scottish Open against Andy Hicks as his frustrating start to the season continued in Milton Keynes. Castle, the world number 100, is yet to win a match this term but reckons a change of equipment over the festive period can fire him to victory in 2021. The 28-year-old said: “I’m hopefully getting a new cue within a week or two which should help me out because I’m struggling. My tip’s too small for the conditions that we’re playing on. I’ll get a new one over the Christmas period, have a good Christmas with the family and get back to work in the new year.” “It was another tough one, and he’s a player who’s bang in form. I came out of the traps pretty quickly trying to put some early pressure on, but he came back with some strong form of his own. It was a close match. “I’m putting in a lot of hard work again and am feeling good in myself. I just can’t get the results to go my way yet.”
Castle got off to a flyer under the Marshall Arena lights as a first-frame break of 90 handed him an early advantage. Hicks then levelled with a 76 of his own, and while Castle pinched the third to go back in front, the world number 85 motored away to get over the line. Castle has slipped to a string of premature defeats at ranking events but will now take a break from the baize before heading into the new year. He won eight matches on tour last season and says similar runs at ranking events are just around the corner. Castle, who lost 6-3 against Hossein Vafaei in the first round of the UK championship, added: “I’m more than confident. My game’s coming in good nick now, I’ll work hard all through Christmas, get ready for the new series after Christmas and put in 110%. “I feel really good again – at the UK championship and the Scottish Open I’ve played two decent matches, and just come up against players who are in form as well. The rest of the Scottish Open can be watched live on Eurosport, the Eurosport app, or streamed on Discovery+.

Pat Wilson who coolly slotted home. The lead lasted just two minutes, with Kam Andrews heading in after a cross from the right-wing. Street were causing issues down the right, and their second goal came after a good move out wide allowed Leighton Thomas to toe-poke past the keeper. Both sides continued to fashion chances and Grange, who received a call-up to the
England Schoolboys squad in 2016, finished well with five minutes of the half left to level the match. The second-half kicked off with Brockenhurst attacking well, but Street grew into it and were the better side down the home straight. One of Street’s better chances came 66 minutes in when eventual man-of-the-match Mayo produced a wonderful save to preserve the 2-2 scoreline.
With a minute of stoppage time left, Brad Magookin received a second yellow, reducing the home side to 10 men. Fortunately for Brock, the numerical disadvantage went unpunished as the match went straight to penalties. Keeper Mayo sent the opposing gloveman the wrong way to score the first penalty before saving Street’s third spot-kick to seal the win. The home side was perfect from 12

Division One Newport FC Hythe & Dibden FC 4 HYTHE & Dibden were the better side throughout, and the result never looked in doubt with four different goal scorers sealing a 4-2 away win over Newport on Tuesday. The visitors hit the crossbar within three minutes, and took the lead seven minutes later when Jake Newton broke the deadlock with a strike from just outside the area. Hythe almost doubled their lead when a looping header struck the crossbar, with Newport’s Gary Streeter well beaten. The keeper was at fault for the second when he rushed out for a ball that was never his to win, Cain Prentice coolly finding the back of the net. Newport gave themselves a glimmer of hope just before the break when Connor Kelly scored from the penalty spot after Joe Craig was brought down in the box. Hythe restored the two-goal cushion less than 10 minutes into the second half when Zac Willis capitalised after Newport failed to clear the ball. Sydenhams Wessex Division One Downton FC New Milton Town FC 3 NEW Milton picked up all three points thanks to a last-minute winner against a resilient Downton in a back-and-forth match away from home on Tuesday. Despite being third from bottom, Downton battled throughout, and deservedly took a 37th-minute lead. Chris Long equalised before Conor Jevon put New Milton in the ascendancy, but the home side restored parity with a penal- ty. In the final minute of the match, Long scored his second to snatch the win. Downton had the best chance in the opening 15 minutes when Will Makie’s 20-yard strike clat- tered the post as it flew past keeper Luke Dennison’s out- stretched hands. New Milton’s best chance of the half fell to Long whose free- kick narrowly crept over the bar. As the first half neared its conclusion, Downton found the breakthrough. A ball down the right found number nine Thomas Moseley, the striker’s cross evading two New Milton defenders and finding Jamie Waters who fired in from eight yards. The match exploded into life around the hour mark with three goals in five minutes. New Milton found a way back into the game when Long ran on to a ball into the box. The lethal attacker waited for Downton’s 2 2
RINGWOOD Town returned to Sydenhams Wessex Division One action with a 1-1 draw away against East Cowes Victoria on Saturday. The hosts took the lead through Ji Nash before Ringwood captain Ryan Osman restored parity 10 minutes later to secure a thoroughly deserved point with a stunning 30-yard strike. Ringwood made the better start, but they could not convert their chances as East Cowes Victoria held on, with the two sides going into the break all square. After Ringwood failed to take their chances, East Cowes grew into the game, and they took the lead on the hour mark when Nash put the hosts in front. NMO lose to league leaders Bournemouth Hayward Division Two Shoulder of Mutton FC 3 NMO FC First 2 IN a proverbial game of two halves, top-of-the-table Shoul- der of Mutton took a three-goal lead into the break before NMO battled back, but it was too lit- tle too late as the match ended 3-2. The home side took their chances well, and were two goals up within half an hour. NMO were denied a clear pen- alty when James Jose was dragged down in the area be- fore the home side countered and scored. In the second-half, NMO stuck to their attacking princi- ples, and this led to their first goal off the head of captain Tom Boreham. Matt Hillyar clattered an effort off the bar before Liam Lavis shot wide of an empty goal after winning a loose ball. The NMO pressure eventually paid off when Jose was again brought down, this time the ref- eree awarding the penalty. Jose showed no hesitation scoring from 12 yards. NMO are still looking for their first points of the season. Despite leaving empty-handed, they will be hoping for more performances like Sunday’s. The visitors laid siege to the goal, and the pressure fi - nally paid off in the 90th min- ute when Elliott Pearce-Eavis found Long, who cut across the edge of the box before firing off a left-footed strike which bounced awkwardly in front of Taylor before nestling in the back of the net.
Matt Taylor to come to him before scoring with a lovely chipped a shot over the helpless keeper. Just two minutes later, New Milton striker Jevon pressed the keeper, forcing him into a mistake. The number nine pounced to give his side the lead with a simple tap-in. Downton levelled the match in the 65th minute after 19-year- old Louis MacArthur brought down Moseley in the box. Luke Dennison spectacularly saved, diving down to his left, but ref- eree Carl Rooney ordered the spot-kick to be retaken after the gloveman stepped off his line too early. The breakthrough came 10 minutes after the break when captain Ryan Osman found the back of the net from the penalty spot to score his second goal in two games. The Ringwood defence held firm in the face of Petersfield’s rare attacks before Harrison Clarke sealed the win in the 69th minute. Ringwood are away against Whitchurch United in Sydenhams Wessex Division One action tomorrow (Saturday).
RINGWOOD Town continued their improved post-lockdown form with a 2-0 win over Petersfield Town at Love Lane on Tuesday. Earlier in the week against East Cowes Victoria, Ringwood were the better side, but they failed to capitalise on their dominance with the match ending 1-1. They were not about to make the same mistake twice and, after a goalless first-half, they took their chances to move into ninth in the league.

With nine minutes remaining, Ryan Sanger slipped while in possession and Bowerman pounced to claim his hat-trick, firing a left-footed shot in at the near post.
