tacular and I think it has really paid off. We have had lots of wonderful positive feedback already.” The pair first embarked on their project to make Milford more mag - ical at Christmas in 2019 when they arranged for the village green to be transformed into an enchanting Forest of Christmas trees decorat - ed by various village groups and organisations. This year the plan was to make the illuminations even more spec - tacular by investing in commercial standard LED lighting. Tracy said: “We have been very fortunate to receive wonderful support in the form of sponsorship from a number of local businesses – Ben Haynes from Gen One who not only installed a trench to carry the underground cabling but also paid for the big tree, Royale Life who sponsored the Forest of small trees, and Pennyfarthing Homes who paid for the new LED lights for the small trees. Without their gen - erous support w it would not have been possible.”

The small trees were decorat - ed by a number of local youth organisations including children from Milford Explorers, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Milford pre- school and primary school, the youth football club, youth club, Beavers and Cubs. New this year is a larger tree at the centre of the enchanted Forest that has been decorated by volun - teers from the four churches of the village. Tracy said: “We felt it was a nice idea for the four churches to work together to decorate their tree with images from the Christmas story. There are 50 decorations in total – made out of large plastic bottles which have been painted.” Another new addition this year is a life size nativity scene featuring Mary and Joseph and a crib with baby Jesus. The large wooden cut out have been hand painted by lo - cal artist Gillian Key. Tracey and Diana launched their campaign to improve the festive atmosphere of Milford after they

were disappointed with the vil - lage’s display in 2018. Since then they have also worked with the WI and U3A craft groups to create an array of handmade decorations around the village. This year they approached local artists to create large Christmas card scenes which have been in - stalled on fencing surrounding the Smugglers Inn car park. The artists that painted the images were Rich - ard Wadley, Gillian Key and Yvette Binns. Diana said: “Our vision was to make Milford more magical this Christmas with the involvement of the community and in particular the children. We wanted to add to what was already done in our village to make the community more attractive to visitors and more magical for the people who live here. Elsewhere in the village Trac - ey and Diana continued the fes - tive transformation by installing wreaths and garlands on benches and lamp posts, and a collection of bicycle wheel wreaths on a bridge outside the Smugglers Inn. Post boxes, noticeboards, bins and bollards have all been deco - rated to add to the festive atmos - phere. Along with the forest of small trees, a large 20ft Christmas tree illuminated with 2,000 LED lights was lit up to become a focal point of the village green display. Strings of lights were also erect - ed on large poles to form a dome shape over the forest of trees and a tree at the top of the village green has also been decorated with colourful lighting. Elsewhere in the village, a num - ber of shops have also step up their festive efforts as part of a village wide best dressed window contest organised by the parish council. Tracy said: “We are already thinking ahead to next year – we hope to keep building on the display year after year.” A village wide advent win - dow trail will also be taking place around Milford, Everton and Key - haven in the run up to Christmas. Organised by All Saints Church, the event will see a different village window lit up with biblical image every evening until Christmas Eve when the final scene will be re - vealed at the church. Maps of the trail route are avail - able from the church and further information will be revealed each day on the All Saints Church Face - book Page. Meanwhile a community Christ - mas tree has also been erected at Keyhaven for the first time this year. The tree was donated by the Aldridge Family at Braxton Gardens and festive lights were sponsored by The Gunn pub. Handmade decorations, including edible bird seed hearts, were cre - ated by volunteers from the village and hung on the tree on Sunday. Simeon Morgan Farming Ltd also provide sponsorship.

Continuing a project that they first launched in early 2019, dy - namic Christmas loving duo Tracy Haupt and Diana Brushwood have once again brought together the talents of dozens of local artists to create a spectacular village wide festive scene featuring hundreds of hand crafted decorations. Tracy told the A&T: “It has been a pretty terrible year for everyone so we were really determined to make an extra effort to make the village really, really magical. We invested in brighter LED so it the trees on the green were more visually spec -

With huge painted Christmas card scenes, life size nativity characters and a forest of enchanted trees, Milford positively radiates the festive spirit this December.
