William Gilpin Church of England VA Primary School
Tiptoe Primary School
tions - we are well known for our superb sportsmanship and com- petitive spirit! The arts are par- ticularly important to us; our ‘Arts Mark’ award celebrates how we have integrated the arts into our daily life at William Gilpin. In addi- tion, many of our children choose to learn an instrument with one of our private music instructors, plus our choir is a real showstopper at our termly services! The history embodied in the founding of our school is fasci- nating and Christian values are central to the ethos of our church school. Our close link with St John the Baptist in Boldre is very spe- cial. We believe that courage is an essential part of everyday life; it takes courage to try something new, to stand up for what is right and just to be you! Compassion is palpable throughout the school. The way our older children care for the younger ones is some- thing we are exceptionally proud of. Finally, a sense of community is essential. Whenever we can, we reach out to members of the local community, through luncheons, toddler groups and trips to the lo- cal post office.
to offer children an excellent all round experience: academic achievement is very important to us but so is the wider experience of school life. We ensure that through quality first teaching, all children can access the learning in our classrooms. Furthermore, we balance creativity, rigour and mas- tery in order that children are truly inspired and challenged. Along- side this, we strive to provide the most enriching childhood possible for our young learners. This means gardening, forest school, table ten- nis, volleyball and a huge range of clubs. By focusing on children’s wellbeing, through nurture and emotional sensitivity, we see them flourish. Our children have the op- portunity to take part in a variety of sporting activities and competi-
‘Great oaks from little acorns grow’ is a fourteenth- century proverb which captures brilliantly the aspiration we have for our children at William Gilpin Primary School. For decades, our small village school has inspired generations of young people as they begin their journey of lifelong learning. Starting small but thinking big! The school lays within the pictur- esque village of Boldre in the New Forest, and offers a truly distinctive and memorable educational expe- rience for our children because we
get to know every single child in a way which is simply not possible in a larger setting. Small year groups mean that William Gilpin is more like a ‘family’ and we know exactly what our children want and need. Their strengths and achievements are valued and celebrated, whilst their needs are understood and provided for. Learning is all about positive relationships and by the time they leave our school, the children will have developed toler- ance, empathy, and a sense of hu- mour - skills which will be essential throughout their lives. The won- derful staff team at the school are incredibly skilled and nurturing; their hard work and dedication is what makes the difference. At William Gilpin, our goal is
cord. Children leave us with great academic results and are able to approach the next stage in their learning from a strong base. This is something we are very proud of; high academic expectations and aspirations will always be part of our culture. However, we know that learning is more than a set of results and we give our children so much more than this. South Baddesley children leave us as resilient, confident pupils able to work successfully as part of a team, as well as independently when required. We nurture crea- tive and independent thinking in all of our children; we think the world requires children to grow into brave and courageous indi- viduals, empowered to make a dif- ference to their own lives and the lives of others. exciting Explorer curriculum and core Christian values. These core values of TRUST and RESPECT, COURAGE and PERSEVERANCE, THANKFULNESS and PEACE have stood the test of time with us; we hold these values close to our hearts and use them to shape and guide each and every learning experience and interaction we have within our community. At Tiptoe we believe that attend- ing school should be an enjoyable experience for children. We recog- nise that happier children achieve more. We provide a happy, stim- ulating environment, where chil- dren are eager to learn because they feel involved, interested and can see a purpose for their work. They should be challenged whilst being given plenty of opportunities to have fun whilst learning. The school is committed to providing a full and balanced curriculum which encourages children to enjoy their learning and develop positive atti- tudes about themselves whilst car- ing for others. Learning is at the heart of our school and we aim to ensure that all our children recog- nise and value their achievements. Our expectations of children are We achieve all of this through our new and Tiptoe Primary School is unique and special in many ways. Staff, governors, parents and children work together to make a welcom- ing and friendly community. The school has a strong family like at- mosphere which is evident as soon as you walk through the door. We pride ourselves on knowing all our pupils well. We value each child and as a result of this ethos our children attain high standards academically and a sense of them- selves, well equipped for success in their future.
Our Explorer curriculum maps a path from Early Years (Recep- tion) all the way through to year 6. Across a broad range of na- tional Curriculum subjects and enriched experiences children be- come knowledgeable and skilful learners. Among other things, our children are able to grow as histo- rians, as geographers, as artists, as scientists, as performers, as math- ematicians and technicians. For example, our pupils have great opportunities to develop their technical understanding and skills through our robust computing cur- riculum and our use of technology to provide a strong home-learning curriculum. We balance this with lots of op- portunities for exercise and sport. We work with a team of external coaches to provide opportunities in a broad range of PE and sport activities in school and as part of our comprehensive before and after school activities. All of these activities make the most of our ex- tensive grounds. When we can, we love to be ad- venturous and explore the world on a raft, or in a kayak or in a lit- tle sailing boat! On dry land we immerse ourselves in the most amazing literature. Everyone at SBS loves to read, this is a quality deep within our culture. Even our classes are named after inspiring characters from literature….each character tells a story that we can learn from. Another key aspect of life at SBS is driven by our love of being All children will be respected as individuals, given equal opportu- nities and be encouraged to treat others in the same way. At Tiptoe we provide a creative learning envi- ronment by focussing on co-oper- ation between children and adults within school, as well as forging relationships with the wider com- munity. This enables the children to learn new skills, communicate effectively and solve problems. Children will be given many oppor- tunities to succeed and develop high self-esteem, independence and ambition to achieve potential and gain life skills for their future. They will be confident users of technology and develop the skills and attitudes necessary to main- tain a healthy life. They will learn to make informed judgements and take responsibility for their own thoughts and actions. Our vision is to inspire everyone to achieve their very best and nurture a love of learning and life. Our unique setting and small size means that every child gets many opportunities to shine and grow as an individual. Your child high. We expect excellent behav- iour and a high level of independ- ence and self-confidence. It is our aim to create enthusiastic learners who look forward to coming to school and relish challenge.
outdoors. Children learn how to look after and sustain our beauti- ful world through their plant and wildlife studies in science, through their Geographic explorations of the world and through the hands- on experiences of managing our school garden or weekly Wood- land school sessions. We let our children explore and be part of the natural world. Much of what we do and achieve at SBS is due to the fact we are a strong and harmonious communi- ty. There is a thriving team spirit and sense of passion from all the staff and we are supported by car- ing and committed parents. We work hard to make the SBS com- munity integral to everything we do and welcome parents as part- ners in their child’s learning jour- ney. Whilst covid restrictions mean we cannot open up our school to you in the way we normally enjoy doing, we would still love to see you for a quiet, individual tour at the end of the school day. In addition, there is a raft of useful information on our website that we would encourage you to enjoy browsing through. We very much hope to see you soon and to be able to be part of your child’s will enjoy small class sizes for the first three years of their education and a nurturing and caring envi- ronment. Ofsted highlighted the following points. “The Tiptoe team have ensured that every pupil makes good progress and is well cared for. Parents trust you and have every confidence that their children are in safe hands.” “Pupils enjoy school and get on extremely well together…..Parents value that you and your staff go out of your way to ensure that all children feel included and feel successful.” “Teaching over time remains strong. Leaders and staff have a detailed understanding of each child. Together, you quickly identify areas of underachievement and take effective steps to make sure pupils catch up. Parents recognise and appreciate these actions.”
William Gilpin Primary School really is the best of both worlds: although a small village school, through a richly-compelling curric- ulum we provide an abundance of memorable experiences set within an outstanding learning environ- ment in extensive grounds. We offer breakfast and after school provision (7.45am – 6.00pm) and an independent pre-school oper- ates within our school site. It is an absolute privilege to be the new headteacher of the school and I would be delighted for your child and family to join us.
