Lymington’s perfect run ends as McGrath inspires Bashley Sydenhams Wessex Premier Lymington Town FC 0 Bashley FC 3 Bunce was injured during the warm-up. Lymington handed a debut to new signing Dave Jerrard. Before the break, Bashley were reduced to 10 men when captain Morris was sin-binned for 10 minutes.

After the match, Bashley manager Paul Morris said: “It was a great win, and we defended very well. The only difference for me with the last two games is that we took our chances. We need to carry that performance into our next game.” Both sides are in league action tomorrow (Saturday) – Bashley cross the Solent to take on Cowes Sports while Lymington host Portland United. Bashley: H. Gravett, B. Strickland, O. Bradley, D. Thompson, L. Aimson, L. Ross, H. Bunce, B. Morris, C. Beard, C. Whiteley, H. McGrath. Subs: S. Thompson, M. Crowe, L. Farrugia, J. Webber.s Lymington Town: R. Casey, R. Fuller, L. Churchill, N. Hurst, T. Stephenson, C. Stanley, O. Fee, J. Bulpitt, S. House, D. Jerrard, D. Falco. Subs: T. Man, T. Carkeet, R. Drake, C. Churchill, S. Flynn.

Both sides registered their attacking intent from the kick-off in an end-to-end half. Bashley number nine Beard saw his goal-bound header easily gathered by keeper Ross Casey before Harry Gravett was forced into a point-blank save after a strong Lymington attack. Lymington had the better of the first half, but they found themselves up against a resolute Bashley, and chances were few. An accidental collision between Bashley manager’s son Brad Morris and Lymington’s Jamie Bulpitt led to the latter taking no further part. The game was delayed when a four-legged pitch invader entered the field to deliver an early Christmas present. Referee Alex Rush-Fear called a halt to play while the owner received a red face.

Despite Lymington starting well looking for the opening goal, Paul Morris’s men came out inspired in the second half. The breakthrough came after a driving run from Lewis Ross resulted in a lay-off to Harry McGrath. The winger finished with aplomb, curling a low shot into the bottom-left corner. The goal inspired McGrath, and just two minutes later he brushed off the defenders and threaded the ball to Beard, the striker giving Casey no chance with a fierce net-bulging shot. Number 11 McGrath was lurking again 10 minutes later to pressure the besieged Lymington shot-stopper. The keeper’s hurried clearance was intercepted by the lurking Beard who gratefully registered his second goal to seal the 3-0 victory.

BASHLEY came into the match looking to bounce back after an embarrassing FA Vase defeat, and they tore Lymington Town apart with an explosive second- half display to win 3-0 at The Sports Ground on Tuesday. Fresh from their 2-0 loss to Cornish minnows Millbrook, Bashley took out their frustrations on the previously undefeated Lymington who had conceded only once all season. The goals came from Cameron Beard with a brace, and Harry McGrath. The result looked unlikely with Lymington carrying a perfect record of 10 wins from as many league games while sporting the best defensive recordof all 280 step-five teams in the country. Bashley’s task looked even more improbable when the mercurial Harry

signing Silvano Obeng set up the only goal and won player of the match in their 1-0 win over Hamble Club at the Meadens Skoda Arena on Tuesday. The opening 20 minutes was a closely contested affair with few clear-cut chances for either side. Around the half-hour mark, Brockenhurst captain Will Tickle stung Kasper Kowalczyk’s hands before James Mayo was called into action at the other end to tip a shot over the bar. The game’s only goal came in the 39th minute when number nine Obeng, who made his first-team debut after signing

Keeper Mayo was called into action more than once while Hamble’s last-ditch defending kept them in it on multiple occasions. However, the score remained at 1-0 as Brockenhurst sealed all three points. Brockenhurst are back in league action away against Horndean on Tuesday. Brockenhurst: J. Mayo, D. Manufor, R. Moore, J. Nwachukwu, G. King, J. Shorey, W. Tickle, T. Bailey, S. Obeng, A. Grange, J. Stacey. Subs: E. Kitcher, L. Carbayo- Borges, P. Wilson, K. Gatera.

NEW Milton came into this match with one eye on their upcoming FA Vase fixture, and US Portsmouth capitalised to win 4-0 at the JMC Stadium on Tuesday. Manager Paul Turner rest- ed multiple first-team players while the visitors, who are also in FA Vase action at the week- end, fielded a strong side as they focus on the league. US Portsmouth pushed from the start, and their first real chance saw Dec Seiden cut in from the wing, beating Eliot Jones, but New Milton’s Luke Dennison comfortably saved his near-post shot. Moments later, Joe Kimber flew into a challenge resulting in a yellow card and a free-kick. The reward for his endeavours was an injury which forced the player off, with Callum Parnell replacing him. US Portsmouth were in firm control, and they got the goal they deserved in the 27th min- ute when Tom Cain scored an easy tap-in from a corner. Min- utes later they rattled the cross- bar with a long-range strike. New Milton were looking shaky at set-pieces, and Tom Cain benefitted to score his sec- ond. Confusion between goal-

However, the home side held on for a hard-fought win.

keeper and defender gifted the another simple goal following a free-kick. New Milton’s best chance fell to Morgan Turner whose specu- lative effort was tipped over the crossbar by Tom Price. US Portsmouth started the second half as they did the first, putting constant pressure on the New Milton defence. They were rewarded by a third goal in the 48th minute when James

Franklyn lifted the ball over Dennison leaving the keeper stranded, making it 3-0. New Milton’s hopes of bat- tling back evaporated when substitute Parnell received a straight red in the 64th minute for a challenge which probably warranted only a yellow. US Portsmouth wrapped up the win when Frankie Paige’s volleyed effort flew into the bot- tom-left corner.

New Milton resume their FA Vase campaign on Satur- day away against Somerset’s Clevedon Town, who play a step higher in the Western League Premier. New Milton: L. Dennison, E. Eavis, E. Jones, L. There was some concern for Blackfield’s pacey winger Flavio Tavarez who went off with a nasty-looking injury after a 15-minute delay. Despite their bottom-of-the-
