Young Badgers one match away fromTottenham tie

group for many years now, and the work that everyone at the club has put in is paying off. “Not only are they a talent- ed group of young players, but they have a tremendous team spirit and togetherness too. “The combination of all of that has seen us unbeaten in all competitions this season. Long may it continue!” If Brockenhurst beat their second-round opponents, they will be in the final 32 clubs. In the previous rounds, they first defeated Portchester be- fore progressing past Poole Town, Kidlington and Truro City. Current holders Manchester City, who beat Chelsea in the 2020 Final at St George’s Park earlier this month, are among the clubs who won’t have to wait after being drawn against fellow elite side Birmingham City.

IF the history-making Brock- enhurst U18s manage to con- tinue their extraordinary FA Youth Cup campaign with a win over Newport County, they will be rewarded with an away fixture against Totten- ham Hotspur. The FA Youth Cup third round draw has been made, with clubs from the Premier League and EFL Champion- ship now joining the compe- tition. The young Badgers have made history this season by qualifying for the FA Youth Cup first and second rounds for the first time in their his- tory. Brockenhurst FC U18 man- ager, Adam Colmer, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to progress so far in such a prestigious competition. The whole club is really proud of the team and to be one of the last non-league youth sides to RECOGNISED by the Seniors Section at New Forest Golf Club as the competition with a twist, the Mark Hooper Memorial Trophy requires competitors to play a standard stableford format 18-hole round with the caveat they must tee off the 13th hole with their putter. It is not as easy as it sounds, as found out by the many who hit their ball way off target and into the bushes right of the tee, but not for Rob Young who confidently ‘putted’ his ball off the tee and watched it bound along the 120 yards of fairway, eventually cutting across the front of the green and nestling just to the left side of the green between two bunkers. As a result Young scooped the ‘nearest the pin’ prize – which was adjudicated by Dave Golf

NEWLY-formed Hordle Spurs FC have put together an in- credible run in their maiden season, winning six and draw- ing twice while remaining un- beaten to go five points clear at the top of the table. The team, which ismanaged by Joe Turner and coached by experienced brothers Danny and Dom Taylor, is mostly made up of young players under the age of 22 with a few experienced old hands mixed in. Many of the Bournemouth Hayward Sunday Division 6 matches have been closely contested with the winning margin often a single goal. The pinnacle of their season came with two come-from- behind wins where they

trailed by two goals to local rivals Burton and Academy First. Many of the players are in their first season in men’s football, with management particularly encouraged by the development of 18-year- old trio Andy Fletcher-Jones, Sam Topliss and captain Toby Collinge. The club started training in August, and already 30 local players attend training ses- sions on Wednesday evening and Saturday morning at Vaggs Lane, Hordle. The team regularly attracts crowds of up to 70 people for their home games, and they are sponsored by Glenn Woolford’s Lymington Windows & Conservatories.

make it to the second round proper is special.” Due to the impact of the pandemic, a number of first and second-round games are still to be played. However, youth teams from sides which qualify as elite teams are ex-

empt from the current ban on football which affects smaller clubs. Colmer added: “We’ll go to Newport County, which is an elite club, full of confidence and enjoy playing in a stadium too. It will be a new experience

for the boys, but we’ll go there looking to get the win know- ing that Tottenham Hotspur awaits us if we progress into the third round. Just saying, that is amazing!” “I and Andy Shearer, my as- sistant, have been with this

Double triumph for Young at Hooper memorial

WITH many local sporting clubs and facilities struggling financially after the impact of the coronavirus, Ringwood Town Football Club has set up an online Christmas market which has so far raised £1,000. The Ringwood Town FC Online Christmas Market Facebook group, which has more than 2,600 members, opened on 10th October and will run until 24th December. The vast majority of traders on the page are local and small businesses, with a few larger companies thrown in. However, all of them will post or deliver your purchases. The virtual stalls cost £5, with the proceeds helping to ensure the future of the club teams from the senior team to the junior section. The club has a few fundraising initiatives

including player sponsorship and pitch side adverts. Page creator and Ringwood Town FC’s commercial & social media manager, Angie Collins, said: “We want to help save Christmas from Covid by inviting all our lovely local crafters and traders to take a virtual stall at our online Christmas market. “The money will go towards plugging the gap left by the cancellation our annual youth tournament fundraiser back in May, and help us to continue providing community football.” The wares on sale range from decoratively painted flower pots, candles, knitted toys, Christmas decorations and much more. FOR this year, Bramshott Hill Golf Club’s annual Dinner Cup competition was held without the dinner. The Dinner Cup is usually preceded by an evening of presentations with members enjoying a meal and merriment to celebrate the year’s successes. However, due to the impact of the coronavirus, the winners were congratulated via e-mail and social media. On a plus note, it meant that on the morning of the match, before lockdown, heads were much clearer and eyes less bleary. Congratulations to worthy winners Sally Till and Debbie Campbell. In second-place came Lynda Smith and Julie Bailey who pipped Miriam Eve and Jane Physick into third place on countback.
