“Additionally, travel in and out of different tiers could be problematic. “All clubs were asked if they were in favour of postponing, or continuing with fixtures during these difficult times. The majority of clubs answered that they were in favour of postponing. “The subject was discussed during last night’s board meeting. The board made the difficult decision to postpone league and league cup fixtures. “This decision will be reviewed on January 18, 2021, however, that may change subject to further announcements from the government, DCMS and the FA. “The break from playing fixtures provides clubs with the opportunity to review and
and remind management teams and squads of their responsibilities, individually and collectively.” Along with the Sydenhams Wessex League, Spartan South Midlands League and Southern Counties Combination League have also postponed fixtures. Inside Tier 4 areas, indoor gyms and sports facilities will close. However, outdoor sports courts, outdoor gyms, golf courses, outdoor swimming pools, archery, driving and shooting ranges and riding centres will remain open for use individually, or with others from your household or support bubble, or with one person from another household. With some clubs in the Wessex League divisions now placed in Tier 4, and therefore unable to train or contest matches, 33 member clubs voted to pause the schedule with just six wishing to continue. The decision will affect a host of local clubs such as Lymington, Blackfield & Langley, Christchurch, Bashley, New Milton, Brockenhurst and Ringwood Town. Battling NewMilton’s FA Vase run ends
Narrow FA Youth Cup loss for young Badgers
FA Youth Cup Second Round Newport County AFC U18s 3 Brockenhurst FC U18s 2 BROCKENHURST U18s’ historic FA Youth Cup campaign came to an end with a thrilling 3-2 extra-time defeat to elite club Newport County in Wales on Saturday. The young Badgers made history this season in qualifying for the FA Youth Cup first and second rounds for the first time in their history. Brockenhurst came back twice to level the match, but the third goal in extra-time saw Newport County progress. Zack Maher broke the deadlock with a tidy finish past Brockenhurst shot- stopper Ben Puleu thanks to a Harrison Bright assist. Brockenhurst had a goal disallowed for offside, and Newport cleared the ball off their line as the first-half drew to a close. The second half kicked off with Newport in the ascendancy and Puleu tipping more than one goal-bound effort over his crossbar. Number seven Samuel Shearer levelled the match with a good finish before Charlie Bullock restored Newport’s lead. Twominutes later, Bourhane Maatoug made it 2-2. Both sides had chances to win it, but the game went to extra time. With just three minutes left, Ethan Morgan puts the
FA Vase Third Round Clevedon Town AFC New Milton Town FC 0 NEW Milton’s best FA Vase run in 12 years came to an end with a 2-0 away defeat against an in-form Clevedon Town on Saturday. The win sealed the home side’s 10th win in 11 games with a goal in either half from Jay Murray and Will Gould. With the match drawing to a close, New Milton were reduced to 10 men as tempers began to fray. The visitors made the better start, and should have taken the lead on more than one occasion. Charlie Turner had a decent chance to break the deadlock, but his well-struck shot fizzed just wide of the upright, and Conor Jevon drew an impressive save from Clevedon Town keeper Harley Wilkinson. Somerset’s Clevedon Town, who play a step higher in the Western League Premier, began to fashion chances. The best of these was a near-post effort which New Milton keeper Luke Dennison saved easily. New Milton were in the ascendancy, and an unmarked Tyrell Sampson missed a gilt- edged chance to beat Wilkinson after Chris Long’s ball into the box. With 38 minutes gone, Clevedon found the 2

home side ahead to break Badgers’ hearts. After the match, Brockenhurst U18s manager Adam Colmer said: “I’ve got nothing but pride today. The boys have doneme, themselves and the club proud. To play against a professional club academy who train every day, including throughout November when we had to stop due to lockdown, and take them to the dying moments of extra time is a massive achievement. “The match was extremely close, which shows what a talented group of players this
is. To get to the second round proper and make history for the club is something that we’ll all treasure, especially if you look at the list of famous clubs that we lasted longer in the competition than.” To make it to the second round proper, Brockenhurst defeated Portchester, Poole Town, Kidlington and Truro City. With frustrations growing, New Milton’s Elliott Eavis received a straight red for sliding through his man. After a brief moment of push and shove, which seemed to involve every player of the pitch, the situation calmed down. New Milton: L. Dennison, E. Eavis, C. Parnell, L. MacArthur, J. Kimber, A. crossbar. Then Sampson was harshly given a yellow card after sliding in with a firm challenge and a late Clevedon tackle brought down Luke Stone. The Clevedon defender was shown a yellow card, but it could have been red. The home side killed the game in the 83rd minute when Callum Gould’s first-time shot curled into the bottom-right corner, catching everyone off guard.
breakthrough when referee Rob Cockle pointed to the sport after Callum Parnell’s sliding tackle caught Morgan Williams. Clevedon number 10 Jay Murray converted, sending Dennison the wrong way. The second half was a closely- contested affair with challenges getting more physical. Clevedon won a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the box after a mistimed Louis MacArthur challenge, but it was placed way over the
