sleeping beauty the mayflower, southampton

PANTO will return to the May- flower Theatre in Southampton this month thanks to funding support from the National Lot- tery. The two-week run of a so- cially distanced production of Sleeping Beauty will feature a smaller cast led by funny-man Joe Pasquale, Birds of a Feath- er legend Lesley Joseph, icon- ic female impersonator Ceri Dupree, and musical theatre leading lady Sarah Earnshaw. Opening on Saturday 19th December, the Qdos Enter- tainment production was made possible after the National Lot- tery provided financial support

to make it viable for theatres to stage socially distanced, live pantomimes this year with much smaller audiences. Joe Pasquale will lead the cast in the role of Princess Beauty’s best friend Muddles, and Lesley Joseph joins him as the evil Car- abosse. Local actress Georgia Carr will play Sleeping Beauty. Mayflower Theatre chief ex- ecutive Michael Ockwell said: “I am delighted that during these challenging times, we are able to bring much needed uplifting entertainment to Southampton with Sleeping Beauty. “This year’s production, cre- ated especially for Mayflower

Theatre in this unprecedented year, will be a riotously funny, one-act celebration of panto- mime, packed full of comedy and laughter and allow audi- ence members the opportunity to come safely together and en- joy the magic of the much-loved and unique art form this festive season.” During the production social distancing will be in place and attendees will be required to wear a face covering unless eat- ing or drinking. Tickets for Sleeping Beauty are priced from £19.50 to £34.50. For more information and book- ings visit www.mayflower.org.uk
