models is the on-the-road price reduction across every all-electric Corsa-e variant. All Corsa-e trim levels have also been renamed for 2021, and now include ‘Premium’ as part of the new naming structure in recog- nition of the comprehensive standard equipment for SE Nav Premium, Elite Nav Premium and the sportier new SRi Nav Premium. This SRi adds 17-inch alloy wheels, sports seats, specific interior with red accents, dark-tinted rear windows and sports pedals.

VAUXHALL is making the switch to electric even easier with lower on-the- road prices across the all-electric Corsa-e range, as part of its 2021 Corsa model updates. The 2021 Corsa and Corsa-e models feature new styling updates, a wider trim selection and new petrol and diesel engines. Order banks are already open. Prices for the Corsa start from £16,440 in SE trim, while the all-electric Corsa-e starts from £26,640 in SE Nav Premium trim. A key change for 2021

can zip from standstill to 62mph in just 7.6sec and on to a top speed of 93mph where legal. There are three driving modes – Eco, Normal and Power – and you can adjust the level of braking regeneration, which simultane- ously increases the braking effect when you lift off the throttle. The bottom line is that you can have plenty of fun but – as with any form of propulsion – the range will be reflected in how you drive. For drivers of electric models range anxiety is diminishing, not only with the extended mileage but with Britain’s growing charg- ing infrastructure that now stands at 20,000 charge point devices at 12,700 locations. And having a home charger for overnight off-peak refuelling will make public charger visits rarely necessary. Powered by a 50kWh battery, the Corsa-e supports up to 100kW rapid charging technology – allow- ing for an 80% charge in as little as 30 minutes. And at around £5 for that at a public charge point it’s not too painful! The key to charging is that the charge rate slows signifi- cantly for the final few miles range so don’t worry about that final 20%.. In the course of a week I trav- elled several hundred miles requiring several recharges, twice enjoying a supermarket’s free charger during my shop, and twice an Activolt public contactless pay- ment charger – avoiding another that required you to sign up online and provide your bank details.

But with the Corsa-e Vauxhall offers a free six-month subscrip- tion to BP Chargemaster’s Polar public charging network, the UK’s largest public network with more than 7,000 chargers nationwide. Then just £7.85 a month after- wards at current rates. If you are normally accustomed to romping across the country for work, social or leisure needs, then the 209-mile range might be an issue but if most of your routine travel is, say, a 10-mile commute for 20 miles a day, then the electric Corsa’s 209-mile range is plenty for a week with spare for a shopping trip or two. Even the longer jaunt is no worry – if travelling more than 100 miles you’ll need a coffee break anyway. With a reassuring eight- year/100,000-mile battery war- ranty matched by eight years of Roadside Assistance cover from Vauxhall, owners have the ulti- mate peace of mind. When you choose a Corsa-e you enter the world of connected motoring with information at your fingertips through Vauxhall Connect. Through the MyVauxhall app, Corsa-e owners can check the charge status of their vehicle via their smartphone, pre-select charging times for their vehicle for the lowest price tariff and even turn on the air conditioning remotely, to cool the cabin ahead of a trip, so drivers can stay con- nected to their car wherever they are. The clever tech calculates the

car’s range, taking into account not only the amount of charge left, but also the previous driving style for a real-world prediction of range, giving drivers a higher degree of accuracy. Soon the MyVauxhall app will include even more features. A dig- ital key will provide remote locking and un-locking across even greater distances, with access to the car for up to five users. The MyVauxhall app will also enable remote con- trol of the lights and horn – very helpful if you’ve forgotten where you parked the car! In these times of rapid change in motoring evolution, it is worth looking at how you buy your car, with a personal lease deal mean- ing that you do not need to worry about what happens to the market at the end of the term when you pay off the balance to keep it or simply hand it back. ■

The roomy Corsa-e’s one-charge range of 209 miles is greater than for the all-electric Mini while Ford has nothing in the burgeoning sector and this zero-emissions model was recently voted The Sun Car of the Year 2020, thanks to its range, affordable price and fun driving dynamics.

It was already tipped as market leader as a thoroughly competent and practical five-door five-seater family car with a range over 200 miles on a single charge and now priced from under £27,000 on the road. And when you look at the cap- ital outlay, factor in the greatly reduced running costs of about 3p/mile against 10p for petrol or diesel, and much less expensive servicing. Its attraction is boosted by the £1,000 cut, with the highly spec- ified Corsa-e SE Nav Premium at £26,640 on the road after £3,000 government plug-in grant, against £27,665 for the previous SE Nav model featuring 16in alloy wheels, 7in colour touch screen sat nav with phone projection and parking sensors.
