Liam Harris with his other. As the second half began, Ringwood had the better of the exchanges and went close on multiple occasions while restricting Spurs to sporadic counter-attacks. With a quarter-of-an-hour remaining, brave Ringwood defending blocked a fierce effort. The loose ball fell to Adderley who lashed home from 12 yards, despite the best efforts of Harris. Before the game could restart, Ringwood’s Jo Manley was sin-binned for dissent, gifting the home side the numerical advantage for virtually the remainder of the game. Christchurch took the lead just after the break when Callum Chase handled the ball when sliding in the area. Number nine Ash Pope showed no hesitation slotting the ball into the back of the net. Cowes looked to hit back, and three minutes later they had the ball in the net, but goalscorer Jez Conway had strayed offside. With just under an hour gone, a swift Christchurch move ended with Delaney firing through the legs of Hatt to double the lead. Any hopes of a Cowes comeback were dashed in the 74th minute when the Cowes keeper was sent off as the assistant ruled his knee to Delaney’s head was intentional. Captain Billy Walker buried the resulting penalty past replacement keeper Morgan Perrin, who typically plays in defence. The win moves Christchurch up to fifth in the table. Christchurch: L. One of their better chances again fell to Obeng who fired wide after a long George Colson throw- in. Totton finally got the goal their play warranted when Liam Robinson sent a diagonal ball across the field to Griffin. The player kept his cool to chest the ball down and calmly stroke it past Thatcham keeper George Legg. The visitors got their noses in front when Brett Williams flicked on to former-Blackfield player Kasimu. He carried the ball forward before sliding it into the bottom corner of the net to seal the win for the Stags. AFC Totton: L. Noice, G. Colson, R. Oatley, A. Tomasso, H. Medway, S. Zubar, L. minutes old, the home side found themselves chasing the game when Clanfield took the lead through Rory Linford-Pill. The first half was a highly competitive affair with both sides going close several times. The pace of Zak Oliver repeatedly threatened the home side’s defence while New Milton’s Chris Long was a constant nuisance harrying and testing the defence. Just before the break, Sampson reacted quickest to bury a loose ball after an Elliott Eavis’ shot deflected off the woodwork. In the second-half, both goalkeepers made impressive saves to keep the scores level. New Milton keeper Dennison did well to deny Cameron Pirie and Zak Oliver, while Luke Haley denied Long before he saved a penalty from Conor Jevon. At centre-back, Ashley Whiteley tested Ash Clark in the home goal, and minutes later he sent another effort over the bar following dazzling footwork from Harry Bunce. A rare attack on the Bashley goal was repelled by Sam Thompson before a 40- yard rocket from Lewis Ross clattered off the top of the Keynsham crossbar. There was some concern among the Bashley faithful that, for all their dominance, the visitors were just one goal to the good. It was left to McGrath, again, to calm the fears. With 15 second- half minutes played, he danced through the home side’s defence and earned the reward his footwork deserved as his shot deflected past the helpless Clark. Bashley kept the pressure on as manager Paul Morris brought on Jamie Webber and Tom Betts. Bashley continued to press and marksman Morgan forced the keeper into a good save with a decent free- kick. The gloveman had no answer when McGrath stuck

AFC TOTTON’S 2-1 away win over Thatcham Town on Saturday was the epitome of the football cliché that the sign of a good side is winning when they are not playing well. The Stags were chasing the game from the third minute after George Smith scored with a fantastic free-kick. The equaliser finally came just after the hour mark through Sam Griffin before Hisham Kasimu finished well to wrap up all three points. The Kingfishers won the free-kick just over 30 yards out. With a brisk wind at his back, George Smith lifted it over the wall before the ball crashed off the crossbar and in. Silvano Obeng had a couple of chances to level the match, but the half ended with Thatcham still in the ascendancy. The second-half continued

Bashley FC 4 BASHLEY FC’s hat-trick hero Harry McGrath helped his side to seal a spot in the next round of the FA Vase with a 4-0 win over Toolstation Western League’s Keynsham Town at the AJN Stadium on Saturday. The visitors took a 1-0 lead into the break before McGrath added two second-half strikes to seal a match-winning hat-trick. With added time moments away, marksman Harry Morgan got on the scoresheet to compound Keynsham’s misery. Bashley took time to adjust to the conditions, and the only incident of note in the opening exchanges came when Keynsham’s Tom Johnston was forced off with an injury. McGrath settled the nerves of the travelling fans with a composed finish which opened the scoring and sparked Bashley’s attacking flair into life. A hard drive from Conor

three second-half goals to beat Cowes Sports and continue their impressive start to the season at Westwood Park on Saturday. The match started with a midfield battle and Christchurch creating the early chances. The best of these fell to Luke Delaney whose strike was diverted by Cowes keeper Ed Hatt for a corner. Cowes responded, and Lewis Gunstone-Gray did well to scoop away Aaron Burford’s venomous goalbound volley. Just after the 10-minute mark, the home side had a goal disallowed when Scott McFarlane fouled the Christchurch stopper, whose fumble fell to Finley Phillips who finished well. Christchurch broke forward and looked like they would score, but Ed Hatt produced a superb save to parry off the line. His heroics were in vain as the assistant’s flag had been raised signalling offside. Ten minutes before the break Christchurch’s Delaney disagreed with referee Derek Pratt’s decision and kicked the ball away to earn himself

Booker, who typically plays in midfield, put in a defensive masterclass to earn the player- of-the-match award. With the game drawing to a close, New Milton substitute George Richardson received a second yellow card. New Milton showed nerves of steel scoring all four of their spot-kicks as Clanfield missed their first and third penalties while Dennison dived the right way to seal the win for the home side. In the next round, NewMilton Town will play at home against Hellenic League Premier side Longlevens AFC. The winner will receive £900 with the losers taking home £275. New Milton Town: L. Clanfield 85 FC 1 (Milton won 4-1 on penalties) NEW Milton progressed to the FA Vase second round after winning a penalty shootout against Clanfield 85 at the JMC Stadium on Saturday. The victory means this is the club’s best run in the FA Vase for eight years. Hellenic League Division One West side Clanfield 85, which is the same level as hosts New Milton, broke the deadlock before Tyrrell Sampson restored parity. As the match went to penalties, the home side held their nerve with Ashley Booker, Charlie Turner, Arron Scott and Sampson all converting, and keeper Luke Dennison saving well. Tavistock were fortunate to see out the match with 11 players after Josh Robins’ hor- rendous studs-up challenge on Tyrone Carkeet. Somehow, ref- eree Klasi Petrov deemed the challenge worthy only of a yel- low card. He increased the con- fusion by also brandishing a yel- low to the Lymington man who was writhing in agony. After play resumed, the visi- tors went up the other end and won a free-kick in a dangerous area. Tavistock’s Jack Crago did well to get his effort over the wall before it dipped into the bottom left corner. Just two minutes later, Liam Prynn doubled their advantage. Lymington brought on Brooks, and the decision quick- ly paid off when his shot from outside the box beat the keeper to present a glimmer of hope. With the clock ticking down, Nathan Hurst and Tim Ste- phenson both had efforts to equalise but their efforts sailed over the bar.

Tavistock AFC 2 LYMINGTON went into the match without both of their leading scorers as they suc- cumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Tav- istock AFC on Saturday. Tavistock, currently third in the Western League Premier Di- vision, broke the deadlock late in the second-half before dou- bling their advantage. Jason Brooks pulled one back, but the visitors held on to progress to the next round. Owen Fee and Sam House missed the fixture after both were forced to self-isolate when a colleague contracted corona- virus. With less than five minutes played, Tavistock forced Lym- ington keeper Ross Casey into action before Conrad Church- ill’s goalbound effort was kept out by Tom Watson’s magnifi- cent save.

RINGWOOD Town had a long 100-mile journey back home to mull their 3-1 FA Vase defeat to Newton Abbot Spurs at The Recreation Ground on Saturday. Despite their long journey, the visitors had the best start to the game and they deservedly took the lead five minutes in when Ryan Hamm jinked his way into the box before slotting past Dom Aplin in the Spurs goal. Blackfield & Langley woes continue Sydenhams Wessex Premier AFC Portchester 3 Blackfield & Langley FC 0 BLACKFIELD & Langley slumped to their fifth defeat in their last six matches with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at the hands of AFC Portchester on Saturday. Blackfield started well, and River Smith had two glorious chances to give his side the lead, but both amounted to nothing. If ever a goal came against the run of play, it was AFC Portchester’s opener which came when Oscar Johnston lifted the ball over Joe Besant in the sixth minute. The goal brought confidence to the home side, who have been going through their own poor run recently, with caretaker manager Martin Wallace taking charge for the first time after the Royals sacked the previous manager Mick Catlin. With 10 minutes of the half left, Blackfield conceded a penalty which Steve Ramsey converted with aplomb. The visitors were in disarray, and Portchester made them pay when Lee Wort found the back of the net. Blackfield improved in the second-half, but keeper Scott repeatedly produced wonder saves to preserve the clean sheet.

AFC Bournemouth Development 0 New Milton Town FC Ladies 0 NEW MILTON Town Ladies secured a goalless away draw against an AFC Bournemouth Development side that had won all their previous league matches. Bournemouth started the stronger of the two teams, but for all their possession they failed to hit the target. Town almost took the lead around 30 minutes in when Leah Ballard’s free-kick from 20 yards out struck the woodwork. With half-time looming, New Milton keeper Tegan Barnes pulled off a crucial save from a corner. The ball was delivered in and headed down, and a goalmouth scramble ensued which led to a Bournemouth strike from seven yards out, but keeper Barnes made a great save on the goal line to keep it all square. Bournemouth had another glorious chance just after the break, but Barnes produced another wonder save. The referee made a contentious decision 55 minutes in when he booked New Milton centre back Emily Dancer despite the player winning the ball. With 10 minutes left, New Milton playmaker Vic Wardle released right-back Georgia Slater who cut inside, and Slater found Charlie Pitkin whose goalbound shot was

Lupton leaves pack in wake STEVE Lupton took top spot to win New Forest Golf Club’s Jim Burgess Shield competition.

The deadlock was broken when Alton’s Scott Sanderson pounced on a sloppy back-pass with just Josh Cotton to beat. The onrushing keeper upended the striker just outside the box to earn himself a straight red. To add insult to injury, Jack Fowler timed his run to perfection before chipping replacement keeper Ollie Pike on the stroke of half-time. With 15 minutes of the half gone, Alton’s Sanderson left the referee with no choice but to brandish a red card after a reckless challenge. Hythe pushed men forward looking for the equaliser, leaving space behind, and Bowerman converted with a smart finish into the corner of the net to seal all three points for the home side.

HYTHE & Dibden failed to make the most of their early dominance as Alton continued their fine start to the season with a 2-0 win at the Anstey Park Enclosure on Saturday. The visitors started thematch quickly and were the dominant side in the early stages of the game. They went close to taking the lead on two separate occasions with only the keeper to beat, but the target was missed on both occasions. With a quarter-of-an-hour gone, referee Oscar Whiting pulled up with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. After a short delay, the senior linesman
