For a Christmas cracker in shopping and services it’s got to be Highcli e A nyone walking down Lymington Road in traditions that are truly impor- tant in our lives, like sharing precious moments with our family and friends. 2020 has been the most challenging and
Where else are you likely to have everything from cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs to shops that sell everything from beds to bridal wear and sausages to scenic tours. In fact Highcliffe is very much akin to a Christmas cracker – it’s a surprise at what the village does offer after you have given it a good pull. The difference of Highcliffe to other villages has been cele- brated in the third Christmas advert devised by the HIgh- cliffe Action Team (HAT) and created by Southsnap Media. The four minute long colourful video features Santa delivering the prezzies to all around the village including Highcliffe Cas- tle, Chewton Glen, Lymington Road shops, the beaches and the surrounding countryside. The video has already been featured on BBC Radio Solent and has the theme of the crazy year in the fictional HIgh- cliffe News local paper. It has already attracted thousands of likes on social media. Jane Dean, communications officer for HAT said: “As Christmas approaches we are reminded of those familiar
HIghcli e and other parts of the village would be pleasantly surprised at the wide variety of shops and services that are on o er at just not at Christmas but throughout the year.
scary year. There have been so many crazy days and our festive video reflects this sen- timent. Let's aim for the best of times ahead and no more #crazydays! - Happy Christmas from HAT (aka #LoveHigh- cliffe).” The amusing and entertaining video also features Highcliffe Charity Players, Stewarts Garden Centre, and Highcliffe Medical Centre. The difference that makes Highcliffe such an essential place to shop is borne out by the amazing range of selec- tive services for such a small but distinctive area bordering Dorset and Hants. Where else could you find a place that within a short walk- ing distance offers everything from barbers, butchers and bakers to boutiques and bridal wear. Believe it or not there are more than 100 traders and businesses dotted along the busy high street of Lymington Road and in the adjoining roads. And to make it easier to shop, there is now free or very cheap parking in both Lyming- ton Road and side streets until the spring. If you want don’t want the hassle of Christmas congestion why not take the bus? There are regular daily services from Bournemouth in the west and Lymington in the east (X1,X2) in addition to route 1a which runs from Bournemouth through to New Milton Hinton Admiral train station is a brisk 20 minute walk away with connections to Bournemouth and Weymouth and London Waterloo.
which in normal times fre- quently stages a range of musical, lifestyle and wedding events throughout the year. Highcliffe also has its own nearby vibrant Community Association which although limited at the moment offers a broad range of activities, in- cluding film shows. In Lyming- ton Road there is the Sports and Social Club which again has a wide range of entertain- ment and activities in normal times.. Approaching Highcliffe from Ringwood Road passing Chewton Bunny, you enter Highcliffe with guest houses, holiday flats on one side and a varied range of shops and services on both sides. These include bathroom and kitchen showrooms, a shop that specialises in fire places, as well as for general home interiors and for studios that offer personal health and fitness Close by are shops offering care services, up market dresses, copying and print services, barbering and ladies hairdressing. Further on there is a well-es- tablished second hand shop where you can browse through various interesting items, both old and nearly new, close to takeaways with a launderette on the corner for all your washing clothes needs.
While some people would describe Highcliffe as a town, it has a village atmosphere and almost all you need for everyday shopping is available either in or around the high street. The village is undergoing a change at the moment as new developments are near completion at the same time as the village is ablaze with its sparkling Christmas lights. Not far away is the famous Highcliffe Castle, the former English home of Mr Selfridge,
which boasts of having a long history of providing quality hearing care for the local com- munity and surrounding area. If you fancy something differ- ent, there is a tattoo studio in Lymington Road which offers designs for your body. Further along there is a shop specialis- ing in sewing and threads. So when it comes down to it Highcli e is surprisingly an attractive and convenient place to do your shopping either for Christmas or at other more warmer times of the year. Although all of the shops and services in HIghcliffe state they are observing social distancing and Covid 19 rules and some have limited opening times, it’s still worthwhile to do your Christmas and other shopping if you are either looking for gifts or something different for your loved ones and friends.
of meats delivered, at the moment to your door. If you fancy a bite to eat or drink there is a choice of cafes and restaurants dotted along the high street from takea- ways offering fish and chips and Asian dishes to ones with menus and a waiter service. There is also a good selection of gift shops with both local and big name products on offer. Looking for a low mileage, nearly new car, then there are car showrooms just a few minutes along or perhaps you are feeling lucky then why not place a bet in the local book- makers. Tucked away but within easy reach and close to the car park is the Arcade with more small shops offering everything from footcare to acupuncture and a cosy café as well. If you want to book a holiday either for travelling at home or abroad there are travel agents offering a choice of selective holidays. Perhaps you need child care for your own children or grand children. Then there are facili- ties in the Old School close to the Highcliffe Medical Centre. Even more but nevertheless useful shops are tucked away in Highcliffe side streets in- cluding opticians, garden cen- tre and a shop offering a fine range of watches and clocks. So when it comes down to it Highcliffe is surprisingly an at- tractive and convenient place to do your shopping either for Christmas or at other more warmer times of the year. There are also surprisingly many outlets in Highcliffe of- fering both mask to mask and online products including a gift shop which offers unique and personalised gifts for babies, children and grownups-ups. There are also distinctive shops with high quality furni- ture offering, predominantly British-made items for all your living, dining and bedroom needs. The village also has a well-es- tablished hearing Centre
