Blackfield & Langley lose despite late equaliser Sydenhams Wessex Premier Horndean FC 3 Blackfield & Langley FC 2 put the ball neatly under keeper Joe Besant.
Stags stumble out of FA Trophy
FA Trophy Preliminary Round AFC Totton 2 Frome Town 2 Frome won on penalties 6-5 AFC TOTTON were knocked out of the FA Trophy after Frome Town won 6-5 on penalties in an entertaining and hard-fought 2-2 draw at the Snows Stadium on Saturday. Frome twice took the lead with Totton restoring parity on both occasions following glorious strikes from Jack Masterton and Ryan Oatley. At the end of 90 minutes, the match went to penalties, but the visitors held their nerve to win 6-5 and seal FA Trophy progression. The opening period saw plenty of commitment from both sides but, in truth, there was not too much to get the crowd going, with goalmouth action limited. With the match needing a goal to spark it into life, former Stags player Jonathan Davies struck a free-kick from 25 yards out and put it into the top left corner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Almost immediately, the hosts bounced back with a brilliant free-kick of their own when Jack Masterton put the dead ball into the top right corner. Right on the stroke of half- time, new signing Stephane Zubar picked the ball up just inside the opposition half and unleashed a fine 40-yard shot which hit the Frome crossbar. It was an terrific effort from the former AFC Bournemouth professional. any notion of an FA Cup hangover with an emphatic 3-0 win against Amesbury Town at Bonnymead Park on Saturday. Christchurch were one of only two SydenhamsWessex Premier sides to win away from home. Max Wilcock and Will Fletcher gave their side a 2-0 half-time lead before Ash Pope put the game to bed in the 90th minute to secure all three points. The win moves Christchurch into eighth place. The Hurn Bridge side has had a mixed start to the league campaign with attention understandably drawn to their impressive FA Cup run which saw them progress to the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round at the expense of Gloucester City, Dorchester Town and others. BROCKENHURST FC were on the wrong end of a 6-1 thumping at the hands of Fareham Town at the Sam Alders Sports Ground on Saturday. The home side were the better team throughout, but Brock reached the halfway mark with the scores level thanks to a first-half strike from Jude Nwachukwu. However, a red card for Will Tickle early in the second-half preceded a five-goal blitz from the league leaders. Fareham broke the deadlock when Calum Benfield scored in the 33rd minute after the pacey striker left the Brock defence for dead. RINGWOOD Town claimed their second away win on the bounce with a 2-1 defeat of United Services Portsmouth at the Victory Stadium on Saturday. The visitors took the lead five minutes after the break when Adam Riley scored his first goal of the season. Shaun Prentice doubled the advantage with his second goal in as many games before US Portsmouth grabbed a late consolation. In the week, Ringwood manager Richard Morse decided to bring in goalkeeper Ben Morton on loan from Hungerford due to Liam Harris’s suspension for his dismissal against Romsey. The young stopper was called into action multiple times in the first-half, and he proved a shrewd acquisition with the
Makhloufi came close to restoring the lead after cutting in and pirouetting past a couple of defenders with an outrageous piece of skill before his shot was deflected wide. Horndean’s press paid dividends again with a turnover high up the field. The ball was played into Duffin who curled it nicely into the corner. With just 15 minutes of the second-half left, Makhloufi put Smith through. Magee saved well, but the ball deflected high into the air. Ali Zintany’s header bounced along the goal line and hit the post. Smith looked ready to pounce before Magee appeared from nowhere to block it. With the close of play imminent, Horndean failed to clear a corner and the ball fell to Makhloufi. He beat three players before firing off a shot into the roof of the net for a dramatic equaliser. His jubilation was short- lived.
BLACKFIELD & Langley will be frustrated to have lost 3-2 to Horndean despite scoring a 90th-minute equaliser at Five Heads Park on Saturday. The visitors took the lead when River Smith found the back of the net in the sixth minute before Connor Duffin scored a first-half brace. In the 90th minute, Fatah Makhloufi seemingly earned his side a draw, however, Liam Kimber broke away to score a stoppage-time winner and break Blackfield hearts. Blackfield moved the ball well and looked to be the better side throughout the clash. The early breakthrough came after the excellent Makhloufi fired at goal, with Kieran Magee diverting his effort into the path of Smith who gobbled up the gift. The visitors’ lead lasted 10 minutes when a shocking back-pass fell to Duffin, who
The home side started brighter with the first 20 minutes littered with unsuccessful chances. With both teams hunting the winning goal, it was Sam Teale who took his chance inside the Stags box to put the visitors in the lead for the second time. Parity was restored within two minutes when Ryan Oatley bagged his first goal for the club with a rasping drive from just outside the box which found the bottom right corner of the net. The match went to penalties, where Frome won 6-5 after two missed efforts from Totton. AFC Totton: A. Skryniarz, G. Colson, R. Oatley, F. Read, H. Medway, S. Zubar, A. Tommaso, J. Masterton, S. Last-minute free-kick seals win for Bashley Sydenhams Wessex Premier Hamble Club 2 Bashley 3
BASHLEY FC staged a dra- matic comeback in the final five minutes to take all three points at Hamble Club on Saturday. Hamble led 2-1 at half-time after scoring either side of a Harry Morgan wonder strike. With just five minutes left, Cameron Beard headed in from close range before leading scor- er Morgan added his second to snatch the win. The home side had the best of the early exchanges with Bash- ley chasing the game. The first yellow came within two min- utes for Jamie Webber, who was making his first start for three games. A threatening Hamble attack saw the home side unleash a barrage of goal-bound efforts, but Harry Gravett and the post were equal to every attempt. However, the Bashley stopper could do little to deny a Jack Nicholas free-kick which flew in off the crossbar on 24 minutes. Harry McGrath earned himself a yellow three minutes later as the visitors’ frustration grew. With 35 minutes gone, prolific striker Morgan received the ball before hitting an unstoppable shot from outside of the box. However, the euphoria was short-lived when, on the stroke of half-time, an indecisive clearance was latched onto by Will Gains who restored the lead. Despite the pre-break setback, Bashley were firmly back in the game. Harry Bunce came off the bench and immediately had the chance to level, but his shot was well saved. Lymington made a lacklustre start with long balls catching out the defence, and it was no surprise when the opening goal came. Soon after, the hosts doubled their lead with a well-hit free- kick. After a stern talking-to a half-time, Lymington’s defence looked more organised. With 25 minutes to go, Richie pulled a goal back before the South- ampton QK captain received a red card for a second bookable offence. Lymington were now in total

Hamble went close to increasing their lead, but Brandon Chebby’s shot clattered off the post and ricocheted into the grateful arms of Gravett to keep Bashley’s hopes alive. With five minutes of play remaining, a lovely flick from Bunce released Lewis Ross down the wing. Ross floated in a cross custom-made for Beard who headed in from close range to level the match. With moments left, Bashley won a free-kick just outside the area. The accomplished Morgan lined it up before beating Hamble’s debutante keeper Kacper Kowalczyk to seal all three points for his side. The home side’s woes escalated when Luke Mitchell received his marching orders for a second bookable offence. Bashley:H.Gravett, J.Webber, B. Strickland, L. Farrugia, J. Smith, L. Ross, C. Beard, B. Bashley continued to press, and after a salvo of shots, Har- vey Bunce pounced on a loose ball to hook home to give his side a half-time lead. Folland played well in the sec- ond-half, and it was no surprise when they equalised midway through the half. slipped to second place on goal difference with a game in hand. Lymington had the better of the early exchanges with Fee regularly terrorising the oppo- sition. They deservedly found the breakthrough 16 minutes in when an intricate free-kick from Luke Churchill allowed skipper Tim Stephenson to outpace the defence and drive home. Former Sholing number 10 Lee Wort was the pick of Portch- eser’s attacking unit. However, the Lymington defence were de- termined to preserve their im- pressive record which has seen them concede only one league goal so far. With the break two minutes away, Fee came in from the left wing to increase the lead, firing a low shot past keeper Cameron Scott.
Portchester’s task was made all the more difficult after los - ing striker Craig Hardy to inju- ry before referee Antony Smith showed Rudy Plummer a sec- ond yellow after the forward spoke out of turn to one of the officials. The draw was marred by a possible career-ending injury to Harry Boyt. The player was making his first appearance after two seasons of rehabili- tation after a serious knee op- eration. Sadly, he lasted only 10 minutes; in that time he managed to play a part in the opening goal. He released Ryan Davies, who sprayed a long pass to Louis Parkin who hit the back of the net. The south coast development side made a poor start to the match, and Southampton took a two-goal lead into the break. Lymington were much better in the second-half, and they pulled one back through Darren Richie before the home side’s skipper was sent off. LYMINGTON Town main- tained their perfect start to the league campaign with a routine 2-0 win over AFC Portchester at The Sports Ground on Sat- urday. However, Lymington took a two-goal lead into the break af- ter goals from Tim Stephenson and Owen Fee, and they never looked troubled. Lymington started the match on top of the Wessex Premier table. With around 40 minutes gone, Jude Nwachukwu pounced on a rebound after keeper Dan Kempson palmed away a save. It was all downhill from then, and Fareham’s task simplified when the Brockenhurst were reduced to 10 men when captain Tickle received a straight red after clashing with Curt Robbins. Fareham made sure to capitalise on their numerical advantage Calum Benfield completed his hat-trick while Archie Wilcox, Joshua Benfield and Tom Settle all finished on the scoresheet. After the match, Brockenhurst manager Pat McManus said: “Fareham were decent, being 1-1 at half-time flattered us. Going down to 10 men after 40 minutes killed it.” displayed some neat trickery in the box before finding the back of the net. The home side had a decent spell, but Prentice gave his team some breathing room with a tidy finish after some lovely wing play by Riley. With 10 minutes to go, US Portsmouth’s James Franklyn went for goal with a long-range effort which took a wicked deflection off Callum Horton to wrong-foot Morton in the Ringwood goal.
