GOODALL’S PICK-YOUR-OWN PUMPKINS
H alloween parties, trick or treating and apple bob- bing are almost certainly out this year because of restric- tions on social distancing, but communities across the New Forest and Christchurch have devised an alternative plan for some spooky fun. This year Halloween falls on a Saturday and a full moon so the scene will be perfectly set for the Big Neighbourhood Pumpkin Trail. The idea is simple, homes and businesses can play their part by displaying pumpkins in their windows which other families can spot when they are out and about during half term week. The pumpkins can be paper, real, decorated, plastic, painted – there are plenty of templates online for inspiration. Then when children are out and about around Halloween time they can see how many pumpkins they can spot – and receive a sweet or small treat from their parents every time they spot one.
A number of neighbourhood pumpkin trail Facebook pages have been launched including
which spell out three magic words. Trail maps are available by emailing forispta@gmail.com with proceeds from event used to support the schools new play- ground fund. Children absolutely love choosing their own pumpkins to carve into a terrifying design and many of the areas local pick you own farms have a huge selection of squashes great and small. Goodalls fruit farm at Lymington will be open daily from 10am to 4pm throughout half term.
