Walhampton GC ladies champs win for Webb

Biddlecombe, Ruby Noble, Jones and debutante Ella Adams performing excellently providing a platform for their side to play. Brighton found another gear, and their pacey attackers left the Forest defence with plenty of work to do as Snook made some excellent saves in goal. However, they eventually broke down the visitors to score twice. With the match coming to an end, Forest altered their shape which led to captain Lia Waine scoring her side’s third goal after some decent build- up play. New Forest HC I 3 NEW Forest Hockey Club first team kicked off their league campaign and showed they belong at this level despite losing 4-3 in their Division 3B debut against Brighton & Hove HC. This is the highest level New Forest Hockey Club women’s teamhas played at throughout its near-100-year history. Despite Forest starting brightly and having the majority of the attacking play, Brighton scored first after a quick attack caught out the visitors. Forest did not have long to wait for the equaliser when a well-taken short corner allowed Lynn Jones to deflect the ball past the talented Brighton keeper. Forest went close to increasing the lead on multiple occasions but time

New Forest Hockey Club’s Rachel Lloyd scored her side’s second against Brighton & Hove HC
and time again the Brighton keeper kept them at bay. With the break approaching, both sides exchanged
penalties, with Rachel Lloyd coolly converting for Forest, making it 2-2 with the visitors unlucky not to be ahead.
The second half was played at a frenetic pace with the Forest midfield of Carrie Allston, Sarah

ELLINGHAM & Ringwood RFC hosted rugby for the first time this season in a touch tournament which saw a wonderful mix of first-team players, women, colts and veterans playing each other. The tournament was in doubt until E&R received the go-ahead from the RFU and HantsRefs (Hampshire Rugby Referees). The latter, a referees’ society, provided three officials
to oversee the matches. The hosts entered two of the six teams with Tottonians and Southampton providing the others. All the clubs showed sportsmanship by ensuring each team had a fair balance of ages and genders, which led to a highly competitive contest throughout. The club extended its thanks all those who worked behind the scenes on the day.
NEW Forest Hockey Club II scored three goals in a valiant losing effort in the season opener against Havant HC IV. Havant dominated the early exchanges and went into the break 3-1 up. However, the second half was a much closer affair with Forest’s younger contingent ramping up the pressure late on. New Forest struggled to get out of their half with Havant’s forwards putting the defence to the test. Jazmine Poulter and Katie Walker were the home side’s bright sparks, but they failed to make the most of any rare forays into the opponents’ half. When the Havant breakthrough came, it was quickly compounded with a second. Forest refused to let their heads drop, and Amanda Hook struck a solid shot from the 23-yard line after some good work from George Havers and Kathy Hall. The shot caught the edge of an opposition stick before Laura Jones superbly manoeuvred the ball past the

41 points to finish atop the Divison One competition. Captain Jeremy Bilham said: “It is great to see such a good turnout for this competition. The putter competition has pride of place in our clubhouse as we like to continue the club’s connection with the departed John Jacobs. Player-of-the-match Cox drove forward before Hook and Walker combined well to set up Valerie Yates. Her first attempt struck the post, but she made no mistake with the rebound. Havant counter-attacked well and scored their final goal. New Forest besieged the Havant defence which allowed Hall to collect a loose ball before evading tackles and slotting the ball past the keeper.
Havant keeper to make it 2-1. With half-time approaching, Havant scored from a short corner. Havant came out aggressively, and they soon converted two short corners to take 5-1 lead. At that stage, both sides began to tire with the younger Forest players – Zoe Cox, Georgia Pitts and Holly Pitts in particular – putting the Havant defence under pressure.

Bursledon Ladies Res 5 BRAND new football side NMO Ladies lost the first-ever home league match 5-0 against a superior Bursledon Ladies Reserves side who won 9-0 last weekend. NEW MILTON Town Ladies U15s kept up their winning start to the new season with a 6-2 away victory over Oakwood Youth. Keen to keep the momentum going from last week’s 9-0 win over Andover, the Linnets started the game on the front foot and could have taken the lead on four separate occasions before Freya Jennings broke the deadlock. The Phoenix players went on the offensive straight from the kick-off and they spurned some decent goal-scoring opportunities before Rafferty put her side in the lead.
She received the ball in the area before turning her marker and firing into the top corner. Phoenix continued to carve Warsash open, but their keeper made some outstanding saves to help keep her team in the game. Following a rare attack by Warsash, the referee awarded a penalty for handball. Hopkins, called on for the first time in the match, produced and an outstanding save to keep the score at 0-1. With half-time minutes away, Phoenix scored the second goal
their play deserved. Gillard swung in a dangerous corner which Rafferty headed on to the upright, the rebound dropped to Lockyer who reacted fastest to score. The second half started with both teams looking to attack. Phoenix’s player of the match, Davidson, marshalled the defence well while both keepers made good saves keeping the score at 2-0.
