Parade collects tonnes of food MORE than £1,000 and 2.8 tonnes of donated food was collected when Santa Claus paraded through the streets of Ringwood and Verwood before Christmas. The six-night event, assisted by members of the newly re-formed Ringwood and Verwood Round Table, involved Santa giving out 141 certificates to local children stating they had been good. The supporting ‘elves’ walked a combined 141 ki- lometres, and Round Table chair Phil Hoyle hailed the response as “amazing”. Lottery win right up their street FIVE Lymington residents have each won £1,000 on the People’s Postcode Lottery. The neighbours landed the windfall when their postal area was announced as a winner on 2nd January. People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson sent his well-wishes and said: “What a great way to start the year. Congratula- tions to our winners, I hope they have fun spending their winnings.” Supermarket in toys appeal AROUND 160 toys were donated to children who would otherwise have gone without this Christmas, thanks to a Totton super- market. Customers and colleagues donated enough gifts for the Southampton social services toy appeal to fill six large trollies, which were collected by social worker Colin McPherson. Asda community cham- pion Julie Motherwell said: “Colin was so grateful and has sent his gratitude to everyone who has donat- ed. These toys will make a massive difference to these children on Christmas Day.”

Pub pulls award for its lockdown efforts

delivered if they were self-iso- lating. Over Easter half term, the pub was one of many local businesses to offer free food. Families were able to send a text message to Phil with their addresses and number of packed lunches they needed and he delivered them. Phil said: “We’re so proud and honoured to have been awarded this accolade. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone in our amazing team for all their dedication and continued commitment to helping us be the pub we are today. “I am incredibly proud to be part of this community and we’ll do everything we can to continue to support everyone here and we want to make sure that no one feels alone.” As previously reported in the A&T, the pub was one of 11 businesses hit by thieves in November, with more than 50 bottles of alcohol taken from the London Tavern and dam- ages of around £1,000. Despite an online fundraiser from well-wishers raising more than £5,500, kind-hearted Phil decided to use the money to buy a defibrillator to benefit the community.

A PUB which fed NHS staff and hungry school children and kept locals entertained in lockdown has won an award for its efforts. The London Tavern in Poul- ner, Ringwood, which is run by landlord Phil Hoyle, received the British Institute of Inn- keeping’s Heart of the Com- munity award. During the first lock - down the pub provided free Sunday roasts for NHS work- ers by asking customers to nominate deserving individu- als. Phil and his team also kept locals happy with a takeaway service and he hosted a week- ly Facebook quiz to keep them entertained. The pub even set up its own village store, selling local pro- duce and basics so everyone in the area had access to essen- tials. Locals were able to place a click-and-collect order with the pub or have their items
