Pennington Infant School A small school with a big heart
Milford-on-Sea C of E Primary School Loving learning outside!
OPEN DAY (ish!)
A t Milford-on-Sea C of E Pri- mary School we love to learn outdoors whatever the weather. As an extension of the classroom, it has many wonderful benefits for children’s learning. Forest School Pupils in YR to Y4 attend Forest School, led by our fully qualified practitioner. Each session takes place in ‘Little Wood’ and begins and ends with a campfire gather- ing where everyone shares their learning. Children acquire life skills such as fire safety, tying knots, con- structing rope swings, whittling and an appreciation of nature with pond dipping and bug hotels. Chil- dren actively risk assess and are creative in their play whilst enjoy- ing the natural surroundings. Activities, such as the mud kitch- en, allow children to use skills from maths and science, as they meas- ure and talk about cooking pro- cesses to make some marvellous mud meals! Working as part of a team they learn sound social skills and diplomacy. The freedom of learning out- side helps develop attributes that are not always possible to achieve in the classroom. This sense of freedom is proven to have a pos- itive impact on mental health and
M y name is Bev Seed and I am the new headteacher at Pennington infant school. During ‘normal’ times, I would be warmly welcoming you on one of our school tours so you could experience first-hand this amazing school. However due to current circumstances we are having to share with you what makes our school special in different ways. I personally invite you to take a look at our website www.pennington- inf.hants.sch.uk/school-video/ where you can find our fabulous school video. We are a small school with a big heart located within walking distance of Lymington town cen- tre. We are delighted to be able to work in close collaboration with neighbouring nursery and pre- school provision, Pennington Jun- iors and Priestlands School giving an ‘all through’ experience for our children and their families. Every child matters in our school and we have high aspirations for all our children. Pastoral care and welfare is at the heart of what we do and we understand that hap- py children learn. Our children and their families are supported to enable the children to flourish and recognise their potential. Our team of committed teachers, sup- port staff and supportive gover- nors ensure the absolute best for every child. Our links with the wider commu- nity are really important to us. We have a vast selection of amenities on our doorstep to enrich our in- spiring, inclusive and imaginative curriculum. Our learning values of ‘REACH’ (resilient, evaluative, ad- aptable, co-operative and honest) underpin everything we do. This encourages children to explore, take risks, challenge themselves and build strong foundations for a life-long love of learning. We are talent spotters giving our children an incredible start to their school
education. We are able to offer wraparound care from 8:00 am – 17:15, through our Early Bird and Night Owl’s after school club. We offer after school sports clubs and are proud to have our Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) which provides children with even more sporting opportunities throughout the year. Our external grounds and outdoor environ- ments give our children the chance to continue to develop their ex- plorative skills and provide lots of hands-on experiences. We have a really active and wel- coming Friends of Pennington In- fants (PTA) who organise a variety of exciting events and fundraising activities throughout the year even through these unprecedented times. The money raised is used to further enrich experiences for children. We understand how precious the memories are that we build with your families at this impor- tant stage of children’s lives, and we work wholeheartedly with you to ensure they are positive and encouraging and will stay with you always. To find out more about our school, visit our website www. pennington-inf.hants.sch.uk If you would like to discuss any- thing please give us a call on 01590 672910, I would be more than hap- py to talk to you further.

The beach is an inspirational place to take other curriculum subjects. It is a great location to be creative and you will often see our pupils drawing, painting, taking photographs and writing poetry. The success of Forest and Beach School has led us to learn out- side across the whole curriculum. We encourage teachers to take children out of the classroom for lessons and every topic has a cur- riculum visit linked to it, including visits to Fishbourne Roman Villa, Sea City Museum and Stonehenge to name a few. At Milford-on-Sea C of E Primary School we believe the world is a wonderful and precious place - so let’s use it, protect it and en- joy learning outside!
Beach School provision on Dorset/ Hampshire coastline, pupils in Y5/6 take their learning to the beach led by our fully qualified practitioner. In a busy life, Beach School al- lows children time to stop and pause, to explore and appreciate the great outdoors and to really look, listen and feel nature. As part of our programme, we study British Coastal Wildlife – shells, seaweed, plants, fish, mi- gratory birds and other animals. Sustainability and protection of our oceans is a fundamental part of what we teach. Pupils carry out a beach clean each time we vis- it and record and categorise the waste we find.
