The Cedars School THE Cedars School is a
management and arranging fundraising activities. The children leave The Cedars as academically and socially confident young people, prepared for the next step in their education. Leavers progress to a wide range of secondary schools such as Park House, The Clere, The Abbey, Pangbourne College, The Willink, Salesians and Blue Coat, amongst many other highly academic, sporting and specialist schools. Past pupils regularly get in touch with news of future successes and many pupils have gone on to great careers with former alumni becoming doctors, veterinarians, archaeologists, producers and many more. The school is always pleased to hear (and have visits!) from so many past pupils who are always welcome in school, and they regularly have past pupils with us for work experience. This year, The Cedars is marking its 25th anniversary with celebrations following the annual summer play and barbecue, and was fortunate enough to have almost 300 current and past pupils and their families attend the celebrations. The next Open Mornings are on Thursday, September 21, Thursday, October 19, and Thursday, November 16. If these are not convenient, the school welcomes visitors throughout the year, so do call to arrange a convenient time. Web: www.thecedarsschool.co.uk Email: enquiries@
A gardening club often ensues during the summer months and, as well as these after-school clubs, daily before and after- school care is provided from 8am to 6pm to help working parents. Technological advances allow The Cedars to keep parents as involved as possible in school life, providing frequent school updates through Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and the website blog. The Reception children have their own online system, Tapestry, which connects parents and teachers through an online portal with daily progress updates and pictures. Weekly newsletters and termly parents’ appointments are provided with hours to suit everyone, as well as the school providing an ‘open door’ policy so that parents always feel welcome to meet with staff on an ad-hoc basis. Within school, the children learn about key values in life with emphasis put on health, the environment, social skills and helping others. The Cedars has a long-standing relationship with Treloars, a school for the handicapped, and our children raise money throughout the year to support Treloars as well as visiting them and spending time around those whose lives are more challenging than our own. We also focus on ‘Challenges and Achievements’ in school, where each child progresses through valuable life skills during their time at The Cedars, ranging from making their bed and cooking a meal to basic money
delightful, caring independent day school for boys and girls from four to 11 years old, accredited to the Independent Schools Association. One of the most unique and appealing qualities to the school is the small classes, which allow for a tailored education that allows the school to offer both support and opportunities for children of all strengths and abilities. With limited spaces available, the Reception class for 2018 is almost full and there are just a few spaces available in other academic years. The school enjoys a variety of school trips, both as a whole school as well as in their individual classes which contributes to the closeness of all of the children within school, who pride themselves on being supportive, understanding and caring to others of all ages. The school went to London at the beginning of the year to Hampton Court Palace and London Tower, as well as further trips to Kew Gardens, Marwell Zoo and activity days as Ufton Court. Years 5 and 6 enjoyed their annual three-day residential trip to Foxlease in May, where they tackled an array of team- building and confidence-building tasks with the opportunity to assert their independence and grow as individuals. The Cedars also offers an array of extra curricula activities throughout the year, including Lego club, judo, Science Club and Latin.
